PM says he uses Sec 44 to facilitate cases against corruption in rice scheme

BANGKOK, 28 September 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has insisted that his administration seeking damages from the previous administration's rice pledging scheme was not a matter of personal vengeance.

Gen Prayut, who also serves as leader of the National Council for Peace and Order, defended his use of Section 44 of the 2014 Interim Constitution as a way to facilitate the legal process and protect officials working on the case. He claimed that his authority would encourage investigators to perform their duties to the best of their ability.

Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was convicted of dereliction of duty and required to pay 20 percent of the damage caused by her administration's rice pledging scheme.

The Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission will investigate another 850 related cases believed to involve politicians and civil servants. If convicted, the defendants would be responsible for the remaining 80 percent of the damage estimate.

Gen Prayut said he was not concerned by former Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom’s claim that he would counter-sue, saying he was only doing his duty as prime minister.

The PMsays he will use section 44 against the previous administration for corruption in the rice pledging scheme.

OK that would be good, will he also use section 44 against those involved in corruption in his own administration?????

But everything so far has proved to be transparent and above board.

Despite Prayut's insistence that this was not a matter of personal vengeance, it is hard not to see it as anything other than proving that "revenge is a dish best served cold"!

Let's hope there is plenty to go around for all the other corrupt public officials and captains of industry who have poisoned the administration of this country (and, seemingly continue to do so with impunity - even under this draconian regime).

44 for his brother?

I guess not

Short answer: no, never.

Long answer:

We all know the truth. You are 2 times worse than Yingluck. Her brother is much smarter than you. Your own brother now is amongst a well set money earning scam. And your dictating new laws to take that particular family's money.

Go make your own money. We like your section cool. In war the general stays at the front lines. See Gladiator

Depends on who was doing the investigating.

" He claimed that his authority would encourage investigators to perform their duties to the best of their ability."   In what sort delusional world would that happen?  Proof of guilt and due process are unnecessary under A44.  Investigations are useless.

The whole world well knows that Sec 44 is simply an enabler of absolute authority. Its effect is the same as the German Enabling Act (1933).  'Totally incompatible with even the merest pretense of democracy.  Any expostulation to the contrary can be for domestic consumption only, as - outside of N. Korea, China and Iran perhaps - the global community knows better.  And it's as obvious as it can be.

No, it is used to bypass the legal process.

That would otherwise violate organic law. And that's why Prayut must also give investigators immunity.

You are a very nice lady. Niave yes and probably had no bad intentions.  Although I saw a opening to rid you of your wealth.

My whole game plan was based around robbing your family. I dislike your brother. My brother has used a similar government rort. But is ok I have a section allowing us to make money..Any press is merely press. There will never be any probe. In fact Thailand government under army is immune to any probe.

Yes I are greedy and not fat enough. Yes I want feast on your family.

b#llshit. why werent those responsible for buying those fake bomb detectors ever bought to justice? that was such a blatant scam.

It will be interesting to see after the next election if the un-elected  PM will continue in "just doing his job" along the lines of the present one. Just reading the local newspaper stating "polls show that people do not care how a prime minister comes to power" but here is the rub "as long as he delivers" Delivers what I wonder.

Sad, really Sad
