Arrest warrants issued for ATM hackers

PHUKET:-- Police issued two more arrest warrants on September 26 for Russian suspects wanted in connection with the nation-wide ATM fraud that ripped off over 12 million baht from Government Savings Bank (GSB) ATMs.

The group of foreigners travelled around the country using specially-engineered credit cards to overcome safety precautions and empty ATMs in Phuket, Phang Nga, Surat Thani, Phretcha Buri and Bangkok provinces back in August (story here). 

Five GSB ATMs in Phuket were hacked and more than 1 million baht was stolen. In Phuket’s Wichit area alone, an estimated 200,000 baht was scammed out of the ATMs.

 These guys usually use a self made piece of -usually plastic, that just out over the part where you insert your ATM card. After watching a YouTube movie: This one is made in Vienna, so it's not just an Asian thing.

 

         First, please try if you can take the (fake) part off. A real ATM has its parts fully connected and they won't come off, so nobody will blame you for doing that test.

 

          Always cover the numbers with your hand that they can't spy on your PIN: Cameras are usually on top in spots that look like mirrors. If they don't have your PIN< it's useless for them.

 

       But to be on the very safe side. Go inside a bank and use the ATM while the bank's open, or even afterwards. These crooks don't prepare machines inside a bank because too many cam could get them.    

 

 

 

 

I guess now the arrest warrants have been issued, these guys will break their hiso holiday in Crimea to come back to the scene of their crime, and surrender themselves.
