BANGKOK: -- A group of Department of Special Investigation (DSI) officials on duty the night former Phang-nga land official Thawatchai Anukul died mysteriously have been faulted for dereliction of duty and making false report.

An informed DSI source disclosed that there were three officials assigned to watch the detention room where Mr Thawatchai was detained, two officials on the ground floor of the detention building and other officials oversee security matter.

Initial findings by a probe team of the DSI had faulted the guards for not strictly doing their job, some for making false report pertaining to Thawatchai’s death and those overseeing security affairs.

The catch who they want. Sometimes the police pull off amazing arrests but when it comes to corruption and abuse by this government, no one can be arrested or even fired. Do the the guys running things wear jackets with Injustice Today written on the back?

"...A group of DSI officials on duty the night...Thawatchai Anukul died mysteriously have been faulted for dereliction of duty and making false report..."

"...died mysteriously..." - does that mean they still don't know the cause of death after all the forensic investigation?

Looks like the three officials assigned to watch the detention room are going to be the stooges when blame is finalised!

Not the case, we know exactly how he died,

"The Thung Song Hong police superintendent earlier said the victim died because someone did it but it was not a murder."

So there we have it, that should put an end to all the speculation once and for all.

DSI? Just the police with a change of label...

If you mean an agency that operates completely outside the law while pretending to uphold it, then, yes; if you mean officially, then no.

The RTP operate directly under the Office of the Prime Minister, while the DSI operate under the Ministry of Justice.

Faulted is one thing but will any follow up action, if any, be ?

They were negligent and made made false reports about their duty which might be quite common but on this occasion someone was found dead in very suspicious circumstances, let's just forget the way the BIB colonel has danced around the description and that must put them in the frame for something a little more serious than neglect of duty.

However ... !

Not for me! I won't be satisfied until they bust some designer knockoff stalls in BKK, then I'll feel my week has balanced out evenly.

Faulty camera, backup system malfunction, etc. I guess his secrets are safe now.

You think DSI recruit directly from the general public, especially senior posts?

Actually, like any bureau like the FBI or AFP, I'd expect they'd recruit the most highly qualified investigative officers from police, customs and revenue departments, as well as prosecutors, accountants, lawyers and public servants from a variety of other government agencies. The current, Director-General, Mrs Suwana Suwanjata, is the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
