October 7, 20169 yr "Yot Aroy is in fact well known in much the old CM Thai community who eat out fairly often." What makes you think the OP is a member of this community? "You want English spelling, go to England, Thai transliteration systems are numerous and inconsistent." Agreed. That's why simply posting "Yoot Aroy" was useless. More information was needed. What makes you think I ever suggested he was or was not a member of any community? Some folks need more information, others make what they have work. We seem to have a shortage of the latter.Try Tom Yum Goong at Yot Aroy and report back, then you will be doing something.

"What makes you think I ever suggested he was or was not a member of any community?" Because you gave a highly qualified statement of the well-known status of Yoot Aroy/yot aroy when I mentioned that the restaurant wasn't that well known, and not know by the OP. Some people need more information, so they ask on Thai Visa. Being able to do so is one of the most useful features of TV and the reason many people join. The OP asked for information and was given one of the attempts at English spelling of a Thai name known only to some established residents of the old city. It wasn't helpful. I pointed that out. You leaped to the defense of those who post useless information and denigrate those who ask for information. Why? I can find Tom Yam to my liking much closer than a restaurant somewhere south of the night market.

Never said anything about residents of the old city or defended "those who post useless information".

For brevity I've edited your posts, as you have routinely edited mine: On 10/6/2016 at 9:58 AM, Bill97 said: The OP was asking for food service places like restaurants and was given a name. What is one to expect, it is the name of a dog or a shoe store? Above you defended the post of someone who posted one of the versions of the English spelling of a Thai name with no additional information. Seems like useless information to me. 13 hours ago, Bill97 said: Yot Aroy is in fact well known in much the old CM Thai community who eat out fairly often. Obviously you are discussing residents of the "old CM community". 10 hours ago, Bill97 said: Some folks need more information, others make what they have work. We seem to have a shortage of the latter. For the sake of completeness I'll remind you why I said you denigrate those who ask for information. Getting back to the OP, I'll repeat my original post: Ask Thai friends or try promising Thai restaurants. The "best" tom yam is a matter of personal preference. Edited October 7, 20169 yr by heybruce
