Hello all

My visa is set to expire on October 13th and I was putting together my documents to extend the visa at Immigration (for just 3 months) when I found that my work permit had not been updated to cover my last contract period, it had expired in May. This appears to be an oversight on my HR's part, and mine in not checking this out.

My HR is trying to get me a brand new WP with a stamp that will take me into next year, from this she believes I can get the 3 months extension on my visa.

So here's the issue: Some people have warned me that as my WP has expired, my passport visa has expired with it, and I am now on an overstay of over 90 days, and therefore open to some dire consequences. Others say that I am not on overstay as my visa is still valid for another week at least. Which is the case? Also, wouldn't Immigration query that my brand new WP stamp is out of line with my visa dates? Or does a valid WP trump these considerations?

I'd be grateful if anyone can help me out on this one.

Thanks!

This appears to be an oversight on my HR's part,    poor excuse to probably the most important document   in your continuation of stay here

Yes. She was brought in as a makeshift HR 18 months ago. She means well and tries...but she only needs to make one or two mistakes here and there and the consequences can be disastrous. (Or not, I hope).
