Nong Prue to Huay Mae Khamin

Featured Replies

Breakfast at Nong Prue Homestay. After which we took the 3480 out of town heading for Tham Than Lod. It is a tarred road which is in relatively good condition, bar a few nasty bumps one needs to watch out for. Tham Than Lod is about 20 mins out of town and it is another 13k's before a left turn into the 4011 heading to Tham Than Lod Yai and over the mountain.20160921_053445.jpgis 20161004_060842.jpg

We passed the turn off to Khao Lek and the Tham Than Lod Yai cave after which the road winds for 3k's into a valley and past small farms.20161008_133854.jpg20161008_135134.jpg20161008_133901.jpgIt climbs again to a shrine overlooking the Srinakarin Dam twisting and turning down to Sri Sawat and the ferry to cross the lake.20161008_132940.jpg

I am not sure where the 4011 becomes the 3199 but that is the road to take if you are starting at the other end. 20161008_125101.jpgAfter the mountain pass turn right to take the ferry across the lake.20161008_125051.jpg

If you don't see the ferry when you arrive at the ferry station it is either waiting for or loading up on the other side and you should phone the numbers on a board at the duka above the embark area.  You want to reverse onto the ferry when it arrives as there is a steep slope when disembarking.  20161008_115904.jpgThe water level has dropped significantly over the years.

A dirt road which takes one onto Thong Pha Phum but to get to the park take a left turn after 2k's.20161007_120329.jpg

From here it is 7 bumpy k's to the Visitors Centre. They are working on and building the last stretch which might eventually link through to the ferry to accommodate the city types who also find that Erawan is not what it was.

To get to the Park Headquaters and the accommodation there is a right turn and another 1,5ks20161007_133540.jpg20161007_141103.jpg

As I understand it there are two sections to the restaurant. The area on the left is run by Parks where you can pay cash. The other half is apparently private stalls where you buy and exchange coupons for your purchases.

When open you can get both Kafae Boran as well as espresso coffee. When not you have the choice of Birdy or Nescafe Instant.from the other side.

You can rent camping gear from Parks and make use of the serviced camp sites in front of the HQ and adjacent to the trail that leads to the waterfalls.

The views from the camp site are stunning. That I suppose, goes without saying. One is spoilt for views in the Park. 20161007_140906(0).jpg

Alternatively there are the Ban Wangnapa three sleeper units at B900 a night. These are a little higher up and behind the main camp.

The Falls are nothing short of spectacular20161007_143447.jpg

There is a walkway from the main camp. Down to the first four levels and up to the last three. The top one is the one everyone would like to see.20161007_143451.jpg20161007_150148.jpg20161008_094518.jpg

The Park generates all the electricity  needed to power the camp from a small hydroelectric generator which is situated just below to first level of the Falls.20161007_150344.jpg20161007_150409.jpg
