BANGKOK: -- Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba and China’s richest businessman, imparted valuable lessons to Thai policymakers and entrepreneurs on how to develop the digital economy during his visit to Bangkok to attend Monday’s Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) conference.

Ma says small and medium-sized enterprises have the potential to dominate the global economy in the 21st century. Over the past decades, globalisation and new technology have mainly benefited big companies.

Now it's time to harness these tools for the benefit of a younger generation that has the potential to create new and innovative businesses to drive the global economy.

Prayuth doesn't look happy and can't even look at him.

I think the lesson, if Thailand listens, is that Ma now controls Thailand's online marketplace and will move to consolidate and dominate further. He recently bought controlling interest of Lazada, owns Ali-Express, which is based in China but delivers more efficiently and at better prices to Thailand, and of course controls the largest B2B marketplace in the world upon which wholesalers in Thailand increasingly depend on.

I know, I know.

Probably an answer to Jack's request to buy Thailand, lock, stock and barrel.

Hope there's an happy ending to this story....just like in the arabian nights fairytale.

Just be suspicious of Chinese gifts, read your Virgil (Timeo Danaos...etc.)

I'm kidding myself, he'll probably tell poor Virgil to report to the nearest police station asap.

Watched his speaking time yesterday and loved it.  He called out what is bad and did it with prejudice.  No holds barred and I'm guessing it didn't settle well with many insiders.

1% creators 99% slaves to the creators nothing new here. The drivers of the global economy the few Einstein clones will thrive and prosper no doubt. But looking around the planet it consists mostly of working slobs trying to eke out a living. Their seed apparently did not drop out of the silver spigot. The PM is doing the double hand rub hopping some of de Ma magic rubs off on him. I wonder if Ma brought a few shares of Alibaba stock as a gift for the PM. Should brighten him up he has been rather sullen lately.

Prayuth looks like he is shaking the hand of Zeus. Maybe some of the Ma Midas touch will rub off.

Actually better not to.  Laocoön and his two sons were promptly slain by a pair of giant sea snakes after he expressed his suspicions.
