Current security alert is a normal procedure: Army chief

 

 

Security alert currently in place in Bangkok and its peripherals and several southern provinces is a normal procedure of the security forces when they were informed of potential terrorist acts whether the information is true or not, Army Commander-in-Chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart explained on Wednesday.

 

The army chief, however, said that it was not only Thailand, but the world at large was facing threats from extremists and security agencies, when they received intelligence reports about potential terrorist attacks, would respond by stepping up security as a precaution.

 

Intelligence report claims southern militants have plotted to launch car bomb attacks in Bangkok and peripherals during October 25-30.

No security in Thailand, I was in paragon 2 weeks after a bomb went off there,  bags used to reserve food court tables with the owners nowhere to be seen.  Be vigilant because these dudes couldn't care less.  

Lots going down this month in Thailand anyways.

I've said it before and will say it again. Ban videos and literature on how to make bombs on the internet. Ban it all. But do they, no. They care more about stopping you download a movie or watch adult movies, thats more important. Don't want people doing that. But look up how to make a bomb and the amount of information available is terrifying. Priorities, internet police.

I agree with this post. There's no real security taken in place. If someone wants to bomb they can do it without any impediments anywhere in Thailand. 

In other countries when there is a terrorist threat things are taken seriously. If you enter a hotel, shopping mall or any other crowded place scanners are placed and the bags are checked thoroughly.

Unfortunately in Thailand there is no real security. Anyone could bring a mega bomb and destroy any place if they wish to do it. That's how I feel about the security in Thailand.

And look at how effective they've been at keeping porn and pirated movies off the internet.  

 

There's a whole subsection of the internet that most people don't even know about where all sorts of illicit stuff takes place.  The sorts of people who want to make bombs tend to find the information regardless of government bans on said information.  

One thing you learn after so long in Thailand is that if an official denies something so staunchly, it has either already happened, or is shortly impending, see: Floods? No, there'll be no floods ///  Coup?? Nooooo, there'll be no coup.

That's absolutely correct my dear Army chief, that's what the world at large does. What Thailand in particular does when such an intelligence report surfaces is deny, deny, deny.

Maybe they are doing something in the background (yeah, no chance in hell that's happening, right? LOL) but, on the ground, it doesn't feel like anything's being done at all. When it comes to everyday security,  I always like to use the BTS/MRT as examples. If I'm not mistaken, it was after the Erawan Shrine bombing that the BTS and MRT stations started placing 'security' personnel at the stations' entry points to check bags. All they do is shine their torch inside the backpacks and then wave people on - do they even know what they're looking for? Are they even trained to look for anything? Do they know that bombs today don't look like the ones that Wile e Coyote likes to use on the Road Runner?

 

Also, because of the crowd at these stations, for every backpack or bag they manage to stop and check (or for every one passenger who actually bother to stop for the check), three to five walk past. I have also seen these 'security' personnel stopping entire contingents of Indian and Chinese tourists to check even the smallest of plastic bags, but waving on Caucasians with huge backpacks and people in business attires, albeit with big laptop backpacks. That security here is a farce, is an understatement. It's plainly stupid, idiotic and pea-brained.

 

And what about those, what I believe to be metal detectors, at entrances at major shopping centres? Almost everyone triggers it. People with big bags and backpacks walk past and all the security personnel does is click his/her heels and give a welcome salute. What's the point in these 'checkpoints' then? Everything here is for show isn't it? 'Just look like we're doing something, never mind that we're actually not doing anything'. Just put on a good show and just make sure the tourists pay.

 

Thunder26 is right. Anyone can just bring anything into anywhere and do some serious damage. Thailand is gearing itself up for some seriously bad incidents if it's not careful and don't start to take things seriously.

No problem for the RTP and Special forces, if bombs go off they will round up the culprits within 24 hours, just like they did the day or so after the memo was 'leaked'. It really beggars belief sometimes.

Like our politics our priorities are upside down. We are to blame we constantly re-elect these jerks. Its the money behind the entertainment industry that run the hounds that chase the downloading movie business. They also chase such things as Gucci etc you know the overpriced "quality" items you buy that are made here in Asia and of poorer quality than the knockoffs made here as well. I watched one of these so called "brand" idiots being interviewed on TV one time and when asked if they knew their products were made in Asia by "slave" labor they stated "oh really"
