BANGKOK: -- The deputy prime minister in charge of economics today ordered the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to find out people responsible for online rumour mongering and bring them for punishment after yesterday's free fall that saw the stock market plummeting almost 100 points during the afternoon trade.

Somkid Jatusripitak asked investors not to listen to rumour spread online but stay confident of the potential of the  country.

He believed all Thais are concerned about the health of His Majesty, and therefore they should listen solely to announcement by the government.

He also cautioned investors about the rumour so that they would not become tool of those who spread the rumour with ill-intention to exploit the market collapse.

The online rumour mongering triggered panic and fear that caused a free fall of the market after investors, mostly individuals, sold off their shares in panic.
