How many months on multi entry tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi

The multi entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months.

On the last day of validity can i..

1) Leave and return to thailand (visa run) to get more months (if so how many months?)

2) Extend it at the immigration office somehow (if so when)

Thanks

You can leave and reenter Thailand just before the Enter before date on the visa and receive a 60-day permission to stay. This entry can be extended one time for 30 days at an immigration office within Thailand on payment of 1,900 baht. Depending on your circumstances, there may also be potential to convert the tourist entry into a non immigrant entry and apply for an extension of stay on another basis.

So for example if my visa is issued on 1st november. Its valid for 180 days. So the enter before date would be somewhere around 1 may 2017 .

So if i exit thailand just before 1st May and re-enter ill get another 60 days? And then i can extend that again for 30 days. So basically i get around 180+60+30 = 270 days?

It doesn't work out exactly since not 30 days in each month, but is this more or less correct?

Yes, in essence this is correct. As a practical matter, your first entry into Thailand is likely to be several days (at least) after the visa issue date, so you cannot quite get 270 days, but you can get close if you time your visa application close to your departure (but not too close).

you also lose a day on each border run, ie the last day of a permission to stay stamp, and the first day of the new stamp is the same date.

That is true, but on a multiple entry visa, that is only a significant consideration for the last entry. Thus, if you manage somehow to arrive in Thailand on the visa issue date, you will get (6 months - 1 day) + 89 days which can even be more than 270 days, but of course will usually be less. Best case: arrive July 1st (visa issue date) last entry December 31st, permission to stay with extension ends 30 March (total 272 days including first and last day).

yes you are correct, i was thinking of the old 2 and 3 entry tourist visa's. thank you for bringing me into 2016

Good info here, but I'm still a bit confused about one thing ...

I have a multi entry tourist visa from the US, each good for 60 days.

I entered on Sept-16, 2016, the visa shows an expiration of  Feb 11, 2017 ... but the stamp on my departure card is Nov 14.

Do I still need to do the usual border crossing or before 11-14 ?

Thanks!

Your visa allows unlimited 60 day entries up to the enter before date on it. You have to leave on or before the end of those 60 days or apply for a 30 day extension at immigration.

Thank you, much appreciated!
