Hello,

I am new to this forum so I am not sure which section to post this to. If I am posting it in the wrong section then apologies for that.

I am from India and my wife is a Thai. I have been staying in both Thailand as well as India. I stay a few months here in Thailand and the rest of the year in India.

I am a web developer and I want to start a web design firm in Thailand. I did some research on it and came across some forum posts in this forum itself and came to know the following.

1) I need to make a capital investment of 2 million THB.

2) I need to hire 4 Thai national to work for my company. (not sure if this one is true)

Now here are my questions.

1) Capital Investment of 2million THB - I am starting a web design firm and not an industry. Web design firms literally needs no investment at all. Just an office (which you can use your home as) and an internet connection. So where would I invest 2million THB :S

2) Hiring 4 Thai Nationals - Why hire someone when I can do it all? I have a web design business in India as well where my partner does the design and I do the development. We do not want to increase/hire new people since we don't want to lose our clients by "testing" our new hire.

I know many people might say that this means I have to work as a freelancer, but I want to work under a "business" and  "brand" and not as a "person".

Thank you.

You will need a work permit which I doubt will be available based on your plan.

You should think very carefully about this plan to commence a business and a brand in Thailand.

Your wife could ask the Labour Office for their opinion regarding your plan.

1. Since you are married the registered capital is required is 1 million baht. Registered capital does not need to be physically present when the company or partnership is registered.

2. Dependent upon where you apply for the work permit you may only need 2 Thai employees since your married to a Thai.

One option you might have since you already have a company in India is to set up a representative office here for your company. Only one Thai employee is required in that case.

I suggest you look at this from the BOI that has a lot of useful info in it. BusinessGuide 2014.pdf
