webfact
Sayonara Sukhumbhand! Suspended spendy governor says goodbye to Bangkok By Coconuts Bangkok BANGKOK: -- Suspended city governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said goodbye to Bangkok residents via Facebook message yesterday after being officially replaced by Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, the former deputy governor. Junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday employed Section 44 to remove Sukhumbhand and appoint the replacement. In the online message, the former governor congratulated the new governor and offered his support, as well as thanking Pol. Gen. Aswin for his help over the years. Sukhumbhand was elected twice as governor and served eight years in the office, where he ran the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). His message went on to thank all BMA staff for the past eight years of hard work. grumbleweed
Well at least we can be assured it's not a case of jobs for the boys. I suppose the fact that new guy is yellow through and through is pure coincidence.. And there is no suggestion that the great leader is merely a tool (in every sense of the word) of a certain political colour Quote Pol Gen Aswin was the officer Suthep Thaugsuban most trusted when he was deputy prime minister in charge of police affairs https://wikileaks.org/gifiles/docs/25/2555668_thailand-asia-pacific-thai-article-says-strong-political.html
ourmanflint
I wonder if the new governor will undo the decision to clear all the pavements with immediate effect, to bring happiness back to the people?
waldroj
It was previously reported (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/politics/30293820) that Prayut invoked Article 44 to order Sukhumbhand's suspension. But, that order (No 50/2559), also told government agencies to continue with the investigation into allegations against Sukhumbhand and added that he would be reinstated if found innocent !!! However, Sukhumbhand wasn't reinstated, in fact he has gone from hero to zero (http://thainews.prd.go.th/website_en/news/news_detail/WNSOC5803260010031), yet we still have no word whether he is innocent (or not) to the allegations that brought about his suspension. So, will his departure message also be goodbye to those allegations (http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2016/07/12/sukhumbhands-corruption-charge-flashy-governor-may-resign-over-spending-light-show, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/931717-bangkok-city-council-appoints-probe-team-to-look-into-160-million-baht-mini-fire-truck-deal/) ??? The following also makes for interesting reading (http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2016/07/28/best-sukhumbhand-timeline-bangkok-governors-mistakes).
