A baby elephant with an injured leg was rescued from Chanthaburi hunters on Wednesday night. Now, forestry officers and locals are looking to find the calf an adoptive mother since the whereabouts of his own mom are unknown.

The baby elephant, just three-months-old, had been injured by a trap. It was found  in the Khaeng Hang Maew jungle by Wandee Dokdin, Moo 12 chief, and four other village people, reported Bangkok Post.

The rescuers brought the baby from the jungle and took it by pickup truck to a Chachoengsao wildlife office early on Thursday. The elephant’s wounds were treated by veterinarians. It was also fed milk and a wildlife official said that the calf’s health was getting better. They have named the baby “Jam.”

They should send the baby elephant to Koh Chang. They already have many baby elephants so it would have lots of friends to play with. Jam is 3 months old a good time to train him up for tourism. I can see it now "Jam Chang beach baby elephant bonanza".

Honestly its a shame wild elephants are being hunted in Thailand. Let's hope the 3 month old calf can be returned to the wild one day.

Hope they catch the Hunter's and shove a plastic ivory tusk up where the sun don't shine, filthy brutes.

I wouldn't contaminate good plastic ivory, a star metal fence post inclusive of barbed wire sounds a better arrangement.

Just chain them to a tree out there and let the ants do the rest.

Do they have a charity set up for him/her. I would love to help Jam.

shouldn't these scumbags be called poachers?? They are not hunters, but they should be the ones that are hunted.
