BANGKOK:-- Police have arrested another man responsible for killing a homeless person on Monday.

The arrest comes as there were fears this was a copy cat killing or police could possibly have the wrong man in custody for the crimes of the Pathum Slasher.

The previous week a Burmese man was arrested and is believed responsible for three murders of homeless people in the Pratunam Chulalongkorn area.

Monday's murder happened in the Nawamin Road area of Kanayao district.

Found dead was Surasak Wanitchakorn, 47. This is now believed to be a separate case.

Police studied CCTV footage of the area and saw a man in a white shirt emblazoned with the letters NYPD. He was seen running from the scene into Nawamin Soi 94.

Some while later a man matching that description was found sleeping rough some five kilometers away near Fashion Island department store.

His name is Nopparat Srikaew, 24 who is also known as Tee, Singh or Sin. He is homeless too.

Nopparat said he had been in the area where the man was found dead. He told police that he had killed the man.

By way of explanation he said that the man he killed was naked. He had gone up to him asking him what he was playing at having no clothes on and he had picked a fight with him.

Nopparat said he picked up a piece of wood - that has been found by police at the scene - and hit him in the head about four times.

Nopparat had wounds suggesting he had been in a fight and there were bloodstains on his clothes.

Police are awaiting the results of checks on the blood but have laid charges against Nopparat of assault causing death.

He is now detained.

Not Burmese this time, have they got the right man

I don't think they care. What are they lacking inside that allows so much apathy for the lives of others? It's not just them but so many people in this society. Dignity and beliefs over fairness and reality.

they got a DNA match so it must be true

Until the next body is found with an identical pattern.  Then they'll be looking for a 3rd killer rather than consider the remote possibility the guys in custody didn't do it.

Will the police attempt to match the DNA of this latest guy with any found on the first set of victims?  Or would that be tempting providence and possibly lead to some loss of face?

No but they will find DNA of the first murderer on some of the second murderers stuff you can bet.

It's a separate case!

With all the same signs, somehow!

Sure it is!

What "same signs"? The other victims had their hands tied behind their backs and they were stabbed to death. This victim was not tied up (apparently) and killed by blows to the head.

People here too eager to pronounce the police mistaken in their first arrest. I'm not saying the police have got it right--I haven't seen the evidence against the Burmese man--but just because another homeless person is killed (possibly in a fight) doesn't automatically mean they got it wrong.

no the Burmese arrest was a perfect arrest, no need to look for any other DNA evidence. must have been a copycat.

definitely a separate (save face) case, they could never be wrong about the Burmese alleged killer they have DNA, probably lost by now.
