Bought Pill In Bangkok!

Featured Replies

Hi!

I hope someone can help me!

During my last holiday in Thailand I bought 10 packets of the contraception pill Meliane from a Chemist in MBK. I had a packet on me I bought in Europe and I compared it to them and all looked find together with the ingredients.

Today I was at my gyne for my normal check up and I told her about my purchase in thailand and she told me that there is a great chance that the pill is fake if I bought it in Bangkok. I am confused now! It looked really orignal to me!

Any experiences / comments?

Not that I understand contraceptive pills but most likely the doctor was wrong. Whatever I bought with a genuine package (from Bayer aspirines to some prescription drugs) was OK.

What may be different, some drugs come in smaller dozes, like for smaller Asian bodies but that's what could be the only difference. The same dozage of the same drug, I would trust them.

If you bought it from a licensed chemist in thailand I dare say you have nought to worry about. :o

i compared the doses and they all seem fine

are the chemists in MBK licensed?? they had a green cross outside like the international chemists

I presume they are and have no reason to doubt their skills. On few ocassions they did not have what I was after (showed them old empty package) and they skillfully recommended a replacement drug or told me where to go. Cold & Fly (by Codral) could not be found in Thailand but they recommended what comes closest to that.

Mild sleeping pills - Temazepan - I asked at the chemist and they plainly said "go to hospital".

It's not a joke - selling you a wrong thing may cause health problems, unwanted pregnancy or even death...I give them a carde blanche and trust them.

Most likely, your doctor simply (and in this case wrongly) assumed the drug came from a wild and uncontrolled place.

thanks for your feedback guys!

think i will take them- do not feel like buying 10 packets again in austria - would cost me double as much!

There is no such thing as a 'mild sleeping pill' when talking about benzodiazapines.

Temazepam is an addictive drug (tolerance occurs within three weeks); withdrawal is unpleasant and the route cause of insomnia is not solved.

The 'Z drug' hypnotics; Zaleplon, Zolpidem and Zopiclone are a wiser choice for insomnia, and could be described as 'mild sleeping pills'.

fake prescription drugs are a big problem , not only in thailand but they are exported all over the world , from wherever the factories are that turn them out.

some pharmacies here may not even know that the drugs they sell are fake , so good is the packaging and labelling. like any other business they buy from big supply houses who buy from bigger supply houses etc. and fake goods get mixed in with the real stuff as the supply houses seek out the best prices and deals.

many pharmacies here are not owned by qualified pharmacists and are staffed by untrained shop assistants.

"proper" pharmacies will have qualified pharmacists on the premises.

the green cross is not much of a guarantee of quality or authenticity.

Why would someone fake contraceptive pills in Thailand when they cost as little as 30B a month ?

If this were the case - don't you think the girls of Thailand would have noticed it already.

Your doctor has heard too many horror stories. Fake 400 Baht viagra ? YES. Fake contraceptives ? Not on your life.

Imagine the repercussions....

Jeez... :o

I've been on Meliane for years and haven't gotten pregnant yet. I agree with pedro001 on this one, I can understand producing fake meds that cost quite a bit but bc pills are relatively inexpensive and therefor, would hardly seem worth the effort.

i bought meliane for 170 baht!

i guess i will realise after the first month if its fake or not!

if i still get my period on the same day as before i guess i am safe!

if my cycle freaks out i guess its sugar in there! :o

That price is about right for a month of Meliane, the low cost bc pills provided at govt health care clinics are 30 baht.

With a family member owning and operating a number of pharmacies I feel you don’t have to worry. To date they have not been supplied with fake medications. In fact it can be very detrimental to their business and against their principles, not to mention illegal, to sell fake products.

For peace of mind take a look at the pill manufacturer’s site and compare what you bought.

Really? I asked my GP in Sydney for something that would make me sleep on long flights, but not that deep to miss emergency announcements while other passengers fitting on their life vests.

He said - that "temazepan" is nothing, a mother would wake up if her baby cries. Also, he said, it won't work after alcohol.

4 years on, I still have a a few tablets left (out of 20) , they expire in a year.

thanks guys!

i take baldrian for long flight - a homeopathic medicament

benzodiazapines.

Everyone reacts differently. If I were to take the perscribed amount of Ambien.... the consequences are harsh. Memory loss, tremors, emotional swings etc....

I take about 1/8 the prescribed amount an occassion and I do OK. But when I fly.... Yes you better believe I take the perscribed amount. I am OUT.... but I wake up after a long flight feeling pretty darn good.

Back on topic.... I'd say your doctor is a typical American that considers Taco Bell international cuisine.

But if you wanted to test your meds out PM me.... :o

i would not say gulina's doctor is american .... hard to find american doctors in austria. anyway gulina.....my gf (austrian) bought some in thailand too...no worries so far.

as about sleeping pills.....at various places all over thailand i did get HALCION without any hassle (Bkk, KoChang, Krabi) .... but since about a year ... it seems to be: NO CHANCE. Frustrating as I definitely cannot stand the noise (Bkk in particular).
