Did not get 30 days visa on arrival

Featured Replies

Hello.

I am from Denmark, and I have been in Thailand since the start of August for my internship. My visa was a non immigrant type E visa that lasted three months - until 29 October. I went to Singapore to get thirty days on arrival, but I did not. They told me that this was because of my reentry visa that I got when I moved to Thailand. So now, my visa still only lasts until 29 October. So what do I do now? My family is coming to visit tomorrow and they are staying for two weeks and we have a lot planned, so don't really feel like I can leave the country.

Thank you.

That is very unlucky. Most immigration officials in your situation would give you the option of using the re-entry permit or a visa exempt entry.

Another in/out by air on October 30 would be the easiest solution. Example using Air Asia:

DMK 7:05 10:15 KUL

KUL 11:45 12:50 DMK

Cost (as of right now) about 4,500 baht

If you are planning to be near Bangkok on Sunday, this only means a morning away from your family, annoying but surely not a disaster. Otherwise, an idea of your planned itinerary for 29-30 October might reveal options via land borders. By the way, is your re-entry permit single or multiple?

Thank you. It is multiple.

But will I be sure to get 30 days on arrival if I go on the 30th? And do I then have to pay for overstay? Not that it matters, just need to know.

What do you have that is a multiple. A re-entry permit or a non-ed visa that allows multiple entries.

If you are leaving from either airport in Bangkok you will not get fined for the  overstay of one day but will get a stamp.

You should not have a problem getting a 30 day visa exempt entry when your return.

Ok, but do you know why I then had a problem when I returned from Singapore? Won't it be the same?

You re-entry permit was still valid the last time you tried to enter the country. It will be expired this time.

Not sure why you got a multiple re-entry permit for a 90 day entry.

And it is my reentry permit that is multiple. My first visa, that I got from Denmark, is a single entry visa. At the airport, they said that it was because of this reentry permit that I couldn't get 30 days on arrival.

Ok thank you very much for helping me. But you dont think that they will see that I tried to leave and come back before, get mad and then say that I can't even entry the country?

Why do you think they would do that.

They will have no record of you trying to enter before visa exempt. All they will see is your entry using the re-entry permit.

I am leaving for Kuala Lumpur tonight and returning tomorrow, but I'm not planning on leaving the airport in KUL. Do you think this could be a problem when I return to Thailand? That I don't have a stamp from another country?

You need to clear Malaysian immigration to get the entry and departure stamps. That is normal for even a quick turnaround.

Ok- my hotel is just placed inside the airport, but I will figure something out.

I think most hotels in airports are located after immigration.

You can clear KL immigration and re-enter the departure area pretty easily, even if you have decided to stay the night in the airside hotel rooms. It is better to do that, though the receipt from the hotel would satisfy immigration that you really did leave Thailand. A couple of people who I trust have assured me Thailand immigration are not strict about stamps for entry into the other country if satisfied that you really were on the flight you said you were.

Why not do it properly?

You've got plenty of time to clear Immigration both ways to get airside again.
