BANGKOK — A Canadian tourist leapt from a fifth floor balcony at a hotel in the popular backpacker district Thursday morning but walked away with minor injuries, police said.

Dale Patrick Weinmeyer, 36, appeared intoxicated when he jumped, according to Pitak Sitthikul, chief of the police station with jurisdiction over Khaosan Road, where D&D Inn is located.

Farang Pee Baa.

They have a lot of building work still going in in D&D. I stayed there a few months ago. With Thailands idea anf lack of concern for Health & Safety, I wonder if he jumped or fell in his drunken state. Either way he is very lucky.

Talk about coincidences.  5 years ago a 31 year old named Dale  Patrick Weinmeyer of Vancouver, Canada was arrested and charged with an armed robbery  (He would be 36 years old today);

"Vancouver resident Dale Patrick Weinmeyer, 31, is charged with intentionally discharging a firearm, using a restricted or prohibited weapon to commit a robbery, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence and possession of an prohibited or restricted weapon with ammunition. "

Wouldn't it be funny if this was the same guy?

When he tried to escape, did he jump from a building too?

A lot of Canadians are unhappy with their nitwit tree-hugging Prime Minister, but this is taking depression a bit far.....

Maybe a Toronto Maple Leaf fan ?

Think you would have to call BS on this one,  probably tripped up the gutter.

Any eye witness to the jump?

Hey Langley is my hometown.

I wonder if this guy is on the run???

Wow notice the nice sidewalks? Maybe I am overdue for a visit back home.

If it's the same guy (very probable given the exact same name and age), he was arrested in May 2011. Convicted in Jan 2013 of using a restricted/prohibited firearm in the course of a robbery. Sentenced to 3 years (with credit for time served) in Nov 2013. Appealed his sentence in 2015 and was granted additional credit for time served.

So I'd say that he is a free man and probably not even on parole as it looks like he pretty much served his whole sentence..

Could we call him a "quality tourist" again?

It would be funny if there'd be two guys with the same names and same age from the same area.

Weinmeyer jumped from a balcony on the fifth floor during a heated argument with his wife at around 10:30am, according to police. The tourist landed in the hotel’s garden, which softened the impact

Landed on garden. 5th floor is the 4th here in real terms and if it's one of them cheap buildings with narrow floors and even a raised garden, perhaps only around 25-30'. Good effort all the same.

i bet he is embarrassed

Unfortunately we do have scum bags in Canada as well and it is of a bad taste really to see Canada's name into bad publicity  I sure hope the cops will check him out internationally and perhaps he will enjoy some holiday time in a cosy Thai jail.

Agreed he's a POS but he's not broken any laws in Thailand and has only made a fall of himself and that incident may be picked up by B.C.'s media.

It might of being pick up but a few of Canadians here have access to canadian content and spread the word I would think.

That person should be worry on what is coming up next>

Happy holiday.

Thx for the info. Wow!!! Such a lenient sentence for armed robbery.

Try taking a salmon out of season or an undersized crab and see what happens, hehe.

After you've survived a Canadian winter, a 5 storey plunge is nothing. Oh wait, he's from BC - those winters aren't real...

And they might be able to catch a rat?
