Measures in place to ensure orderliness of mourners at Grand Palace

Tanakorn Sangiam

BANGKOK, 29 October 2016 (NNT) – The government has established measures to take care of the general public who wish to pay homage before the royal urn of the late King Rama IX at the Grand Palace from 29 October.

Government spokesman Lt Gen Sanserm Kaewkamnerd said the government had planned to distribute queuing numbers for 10,000 persons who wish to enter Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace to pay homage to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej daily.

The queuing numbers will be given out at a distribution point on the Supreme Court side of Sanam Luang ground. Number cards have different colors each day to prevent imitation and misuses. The measure is evaluated and adjusted on daily basis as there are a massive number of mourners in the area.

The government spokesman suggested those who have not yet started their journey to the Grand Palace to consider visiting at a later date to prevent congestion as the Throne Hall will be open for the general public in a lengthy period while mourners are asked to strictly follow the dress code and refrain from taking private vehicles into areas around the palace.

The authorities and volunteers are present at Sanam Luang to provide assistance to mourners, including food and drinks, medical service, toilets, prevention of child loss and traffic accommodations.

Inquiries regarding transportation options, parking lots and shuttle buses to Sanam Luang can be made via the Transport Safety Center's Hotline 1356 around the clock.
