Allright, this sounds good, and I'd like to know what goes in it. To me it's sounding like a great winter time dish, kind of like French Cassoulet, or maybe American baked beans simmered with a ham hock in it. If you're not so good with recipes, and cook from instinct, just a short list of ingredients, and a little blurb of what you do with it would be nice.

And what do you eat with it ? Any special bread or beer (bier)?

You're right it's a winter dish back in Germany or better a dish for colder or rainy days.

I cook the Linseneintopf with carrots, celery and leeks(all fresh) and potatoes, some bacon and a good Frankfurter sausage.

The Kasseler and Sauerkraut comes with home made mashed potatoes.

If you believe it or not: don't like to drink any alcohol at home, very rare.

May be a good slice of bread

(my first Thai wife loved Sauerkraut and Kasseler)

First of all,

do not make "Linseneintopf" together with "Kasseler + Sauerkraut", doing so

will create something unparalled. :D

- Linseneintopf

soak lentils for 15 minutes ( use water, no alkohol ) :o

add potatoes, carrot, onions and boil it together until potatoes well done

spices whatever you like

finally add some redwine

- Kasseler + Sauerkraut

bottom of pot some fat pork, bake well

after this add a layer of Kraut, then Kasseler and so on

cook on low heat appx two hours

spices whatever you like

serve with potatoes

This is our favorite ...

I prefer the jarred kraut at Villa. They also have red cabbage and other goodies. Related, the Siam Paragon deli is very impressive at what you can find there. Thumbs up to Bei Otto too.

I get my sauerkraut fresh from Belucky. Lots of Wacholderbeeren in it. Kassler from there as well. There is one in BKK but I use the branck in Naklua (Pattaya)

Where do yo get the celery from? I'm talking the knob celery (Knollensellerie, Apium graveolens rapaceum), not the green celery (Staudensellerie, Apium graveolens)

Sorry, I am just curious.... BELUCKY as I know.... is a company to produced only sausages and smoked meat products.

Have never sold sauerkraut "at all" or any "cheese". I have never heard of these.... :o

but if you got from Naklua, may be you bought from just an agency of this brand...I guess...

Do you buy them from a supermarket called S.S.Sausages Co.,Ltd.?

Bought some very nice Sauerkraut from Villa in Ari recently, made by T.G.M. and only about 40 Baht for a decent sized tub. Not sure about the lentils though, but I expect they would probably have them at Villa also.

If you live in Bangkok, the best lentils are for sale in the Lemon Farm stores, and the best sauerkraut you make yourself:

I make sauerkraut for over 30 years, the Thai just love it :D

If you want I can teach you
