Loy Krathong

Featured Replies

Last I heard, Loy Krathong is cancelled in Pattaya this year. Does that mean the whole event is cancelled, no releasing of krathongs. Or does it only apply to related festivities such as beauty pageants etc ?

it may be just considerably toned down because in Chiang Mai after immediately announcing two weeks ago that it was cancelled there it is now back on and from the program it actually seems a lot more tasteful:thumbsup:

I thought it was cancelled too but the GF insists that it's still on, though there will be no fireworks. There weren't any fireworks allowed last year either as far as I can remember so it sounds like it will be much the same. Maybe they'll REALLY clamp down on the khom loy this year though?

The actual launch of the Krathongs will be as usual, but the pop concerts, fireworks and other 'screaming' festivities are cancelled.

As what Asiantravel said: It may be more attractive now and back to its essentials.

Boy, I hope this sets a subdued-event precedent for Songkran 2017...

+1

I asked about it up in Chiang Mai, and it is on, as well as Yi Peng. No parties or loud music though.

The guy I asked seemed surprised when I said I thought all such had been cancelled, but apparently bookings are well down as the word has been out overseas about the reduced activities, and tourists are opting for other countries.

Can't say that I'd relish being an hotel owner this ?high season.
