Just another live testimonial that life in Europe is more expensive than Thailand!

Four kids ! wonder if they are her husbands or earlier.

With 4 kids life is no bed of roses anywhere and LOS is not so cheap anymore.

Imagine putting that lot through private schools here .

When I'm in NZ my Thai wife works as it is to boring for her doing nothing and helps lighten the financial burden.

She should be grateful, maybe she is bored with the husband.

To bad she learned that lesson. I know many in the USA and other countries who work hard and make a lot of money. Sometimes they go to a University to do this and others go to a good trade school and make well over 150K per year. They raise children with real values and work ethics and have a great live.  In their spare time some grow amazing spices and vegetables too!!

I agree. My wife has a masters degree in Nutrition/nursing. She worked for 10 years a nurse manager in BKK until we left. We both felt she would be able to apply some of it and at least find a job at a hospital. She was denied for every place she applied. Sadly the US doesn't readily accept other countries educational accreditation. She researched and found she could take a 2.5 year nurse trade program but the cost was nearly $40K not counting supplies, books etc(More like $60K when done). She couldn't get a grant because I made too much money. We knew at the time we would only be in the US about 3 to 4 years so she stated it did not make a lot of sense to spend upward $60K only to leave. But to your point, some (not a lot) find their ways as you mentioned. I question the $150K figure but nevertheless they are gainfully professionally employed. They come at a much earlier age in life (My wife is early 40's) and make a run at it and some can make a lot of money. But to the OP's point, Life is no bed of roses when the gal moves to the husbands home country. Look at how the foreigners bitch about living in Thailand.  There is cultural shock, climate issues, home sick, lonely, and if your wife has any values probably feels bad that the man is making all the money and she is not contributing. The proverbial "Rose Colored Glasses" goes both ways. In the end most end up working in restaurants for other Thai people. Vietnamese and Filipinos the same.  She was offered some good money to stay to run the catering side of the business as she had built up a good reputation but she said the hours are too long, the people are pushy and demanding and the government takes too much away from her check.

Have you heard the one about the porn star and the old man?

Many Thai women think the Farlang is their ticket to a life of ease and plenty.

the same thinking must have gone through the head of the Thai woman who was compared to Cinderella after she married a billionaire dream prince ...but he probably forgot to tell her that earlier he was sued in an American court by a girl friend to whom he transferred his HIV condition...

She is lucky to get a job with that hair coloring. She must be a lazy Moo as all the Thai ladies I have known (quite a lot) in the Thai community in aussie like work and all are hard working. Sure its not like watching rice grow like she obviously did in Issan.

They are brainwashed to believe that the streets are paved with gold and that we are all millionaires.

When i fist took my Mrs to Britain and we were there for three months it was the biggest learning curve she had ever been on in her life.  Upon return she smashed the dreams of dozens of her old friends who all expected her to be telling them it was paradise there !

There's more:

Many in my extended Thai family firmly believe the following;  in all 'farang / very successful ' countries the leader is fabulously unbelievably wealthy and personally gives every citizen a very big monthly salary. Therefore when there are elections everybody should just vote for the richest candidate.

Examples often quoted by family: Clinton, Bush, Obama, Lee Kwan U, Queen Elizabeth, last couple of presidents of China.

This obviously has connotations in regard to recent Thai political history. There was one argument for a while whether abhisit or thaksin was the local richest.

In otherwords, she has to actually do a bit of work for a change apart from  just opening her legs.......and of course we already know why this race are  considered by many as the laziest in the world....

Laziest In the world?

Have you spent any time In the Pacific Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa??

There would be some serious contenders for that title out there.

Basil, as we know it - European basil, grows very fast in Thailand but because it grows fast it has zero taste - as we know it.

I had it in our garden and it grew well, also tasted the same as in Europe. But my misses forgot to water them so they died. I still wished i knew where to buy it though, and also pine-nuts and parmesan cheese (that one i know where to buy).

Did the price of Basil, meals etc go up further when it was her turn to pay?

Yup, in Jurrmanee we extort Thai people (only Thai) and ask them a triple price. IF they don't bargain  they have to pay that.

A fresh basil plant in the supermarket (whole plant in a pot) costs 1-2 euro and you can even transplant it so it keeps on growing.

I think people are being too hard on a Thai girl (woman?).

It should also be the guy's responsibility to familiarize himself with a Thai culture and not lure someone into some backwater German town where she would have no one to socialize with and advance herself in some way. If Westerners are truly intellectually superior to some Isaan lass, then they should be able to see things in advance about how certain situations are going to play out. My wife keeps in touch with a lot of Thai women in Canada. Half of them are miserable for the exact same reason. It really has nothing to do with money, but with empty promises the guy has made to bring his little trophy gal into the "civilization".

Totally his fault for being an idiot.

Sheesh, years ago (like, 15 or so) I used to have conversations with girls and they'd ask about living in Canada. I told them what they could earn as a waitress/cashier, shop clerk, etc and they all wanted to immediately move to Canada !

Then I explained to them how the government takes up to 33% of their salary right off the top in taxes and how they have to pay additional taxes on almost everything they buy, and may still have to pay even more taxes at the end of the year ! I also told them what a small apartment in a cheap (and not so nice) part of Vancouver would cost, and how much other things would cost. Yeah, they could make more money, but they'd also have to pay a lot more just to get by.

Then I told them what the weather was like at that time (it was February and in Pattaya the temperature was down to around 20 Celsius while in Vancouver it was a mild 0 degrees) ! Once they realized that they quickly changed their minds about wanting to move there !

Yes the land of the Golden Goose which of course during the time of year you state lays a frozen golden egg. Once you slice up the egg each slice does not go very far. Also as you state the first person waiting with their hand out is the Taxman. This girl looks rather young and seems to still be on a learning curve. In this life you either work or go to the bank and borrow it and if you borrow it you need a job to pay it back. What a vicious circle. Talk the husband into moving back to Thailand if he is over 50. Live like a millionaire on his pension and throw away your winter boots and mittens. The grass always looks greener.

........ A thai lady has far more options and oportunities abroad than a farang does in thailand

Why? Because most farang don't bother to integrate or even ask about how to get citizenship. Hell, most don't even learn the language then complain about having no rights lol lol

Many of us DO choose to integrate & learn the language - to different levels of proficiency, admittedly, but we do try to learn - and when we ask about citizenship we find out that, without paying income tax immediately prior to application, we're absolutely ineligible for consideration.

We don't all have the benefit of being long-term expat workers here Johnniey, as I believe you are, or we're beyond the time in our lives when we want to restart work so that we qualify for Thai citizenship.

Not for us the luxury of being considered good & suitable people, integrating with Thai society and generally being 'good blokes' so we can be considered as citizenship candidates.

Rather than being considered for citizenship because we don't harm local society, we have to prove we're a positive benefit. Nothing wrong with that but we could do without the likes of you then berating us for not integrating and asking about citizenship.

How many foreigners in 'our own countries' have gained citizenship without working a day or paying any income tax at all? They just keep their heads down, comply with the rules & regulations of society - as do the vast majority of foreigners here in Thailand who will never be eligible for citizenship - complete the paperwork, pay the fees and HEY PRESTO! a passport arrives on their doormat one day.
