Paperwork required for bike to Malaysia

Featured Replies

Hi All

I want to do a trip from Thailand to Malaysia and maybe into Singapore by bike.

What paperwork is required on the Thai and Malaysian side i.e. Translation of documents insurance etc?

The bike is legal and fully paid up in Thailand with all taxes paid.

I have heard of problems getting back into Thailand if you are missing some paperwork on the way out.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

What border are you going through ? I have a pretty comprehensive run down on what you will need along with the forms - some details are found on Horizons unlimited  some on GTR.

Step one is to collect a translation of your green book from your local DLT at a cost of 25B - there is a form, but it's in Thai and easier to just walk up and request.

To enter SG is tricky, as far as I know, you leave your bike at the border, go and apply for a permit, then return - I'm not too sure about the time scale or costs - there may also be a roadworthyness certificate.

You are getting confused with Laos, yes a very small minority have issues - if they have had the paperwork, handed it over and it hasn't been processed right.

At the Malay border there is no issue, there is free movement, no need to temporary export your vehicle from Thailand, the only paperwork that is now demanded on the Thai side is a TM2  its always been in the rules but never enforced until the six months, but it's not so critical as it is on the Laos borders.
