Hi there

Im a 24year old guy from Sweden.

I met a girl who lives in Sweden on a 1year workpermit. She will go home in the end of february-07 and Im planning to move with her.

She is 27years old, dont have any kids or been married before either.

She lives and works in bkk.

We are engaged since 4months back, and I been with her for 8months.

Is there any better chances for me to seek visa since I have a thaifiance and we are about to get married but not until 2008 since I have to get to know her family and everything.

I talked to the embassy in stockholm, but they only suggest touristvisa, but there must be some otherway or am I wrong?

I dont wanna move down with her and stay 5months on a double entry touristvisa, and then have to go out of thailand for 3months and then go back again..

So what options do I have? Im desperate since I cant imagine to be without her.

*Edit I been reading this forum for a couple of months now but I still feel that I need your guys help!**

Great forum btw

Please help me.

Sincerly, Jonas

If the embassy is offering you a double entry tourist visa you'll probably not be able to get much more. After 6 months you could go to get another 60 days tourist visa in Penang or KL which can be extended to 90 days. You could do this another time making a total of 1 year.

You can only stay 90 days per 180 days in Thailand based on 30-day stamps. Many people belief that tourist visas are not counted and that you can get a new tourisy visa every 90 days, allowing you to stay practically full time in Thailand. There's no need to stay out of Thailand for 90 days. Future will prove if this is correct.

Another option is that you begg at the embassy to get a multiple entry non-immigrant O visa. It's not sure this will help. It did this before my wife and I were married and it didn't help.

As said your only option is a multi entry tourist visa . Each entry is for 60 days and can be extended by a further 30 days giving you 90 days each entry. When finished you can go to a Thai embassy in Asia and get another tourist visa. How many times you can do this is any bodies guess. Even if you get married quick it will not be easy to stay.

Just noticed she works in BKK. If she can show an income of 40,000 Baht a month and you are married you would be able to stay long time on a non imm o visa extended yearly.

Try to get a 1 year Non Immigrant O visa at the Thai Embassy in your country. It will be a very very long shot, but it is possible. I got one last year from an Embassy in Oz ( I understand its a different country to yours ) by contacting the embassy by phone, speaking to the consul general there who was very helpfull. He told me to write the following on the application form "I would like to spend 12 months in Thailand living with my fiance so we can get to know each other better before getting married "

Anyway, I got the visa. I dont think there are many embassies that will twist the rules for you, but then again the visa grant is up to the person checking your application. So if you send your application to the right place, with a bit of luck, you might be able to get a Non O, if not, you will have to go down the tourist visa route.....................

Hi there

Thank you for all your answers.

I will try to go for a 1 year Non Immigrant O visa then.

If that doesnt work, is there only touristvisa left for me then?

As aussiestyle wrote, I really want to get to know my fiance in her hometown too, and her family before I tie the knot.

If there is anyone having any other suggestion, Im very grateful for all answers and help.

LOS is 4 weeks away from the introduction of a new law on immigration and until "live" its very much wait and see IMHO - there are many people in a similar type of visa situation, looking to stay longer but based on the new changes wont be able to so Jonas heres my

My 2 cents

- I dont know if you have been on stamps or started with a visa but if your able to hold out past Jan and Feb I think the advice will be different for a lot of people by then, by the middle of Jan it will be very obvious "what should be happening" days verus 'stamps' etc... and what is actually happening 'in terms of policy'

- what do you plan to do while staying here? - there hard to get and full time but if you got a job with a volunteer/charity group they can get you a Non Imm B which will get you a year. Its not meant to be a workaround on staying longer but if you had one of those jobs you can get the Non B easily - and thats not hearsay my wife just got one the other day but she wants to work in that area in the future in europe, but has no background in this type of work previously, from english to computers lots of places looking for help, all unpaid of course

But you would need to be serious about it, just a thought really to add to your list

Hi there

My plan is to go there and look for a job as soon as possible.

But if I cant find one, it would be great to have the visa sorted out before I go there.

My goal is to find a job and gain a workpermit that way.

But I will check out this possibility too.

Thanks alot, Jonas

I really should get glasses as I missed that bit about looking for a job and not being here

So a different suggestion - I dont know if age has any bearing on it but if your a fluent english speaker

the one thing they are lacking here and will be even more so after Jan cos of foreigners bucking the system is English teachers

Arrive with a Tourist Visa multiple entry, sign on to a TEFL course (you need the cert to be able to teach and no its not free :o ) and look for work, in an ideal world you would get a job with a reputable place and they (at least in theory) will help sort out the visa

Now if I can just find the door out of my office I think I will go to the opticians
