RCAF Officer Arrested for Deputy’s Murder

Featured Replies

SECOND Lieutenant Lok Chun, the 38-year-old commander of the Kor 2 military unit stationed at Battalion 2 in Kampong Cham province’s Stung Trang district, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering deputy commander Second Lieutenant Chan Pov on Monday night. Brigadier General Doung Seng, deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) in Kampong Cham province, told Khmer Times that 50-year-old Sec. Lt. Pov was shot once in the head at about 10pm on Monday in the Stung Trang barracks and died instantly.

He said that on the night of the murder,  Sec. Lt. Chun had telephoned the victim ordering him to see him at the base’s watchtower, but Sec. Lt. Pov complained and cursed his superior. However, he followed the order and rode his motorbike from his house off the base and upon arrival got into a heated argument that led to a brawl between the two commanders.

“The suspect got angry that the victim did not respect him as his commander and had cursed at him,” Brig. Gen. Seng said. “[Sec. Lt. Chun] then fired a bullet into the victim’s head and caused him to die immediately at the scene. “After killing him, he took the motorbike and fled the scene, but was later arrested by his own soldiers,” he added.
