NLA to vote on Friday on the fate of two former Pheu Thai MPs

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly is due on Friday to vote whether to impeach two former Pheu Thai MPs, Mr Udomdej Rattanasathien and Mr Narisorn Thongthirat.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission has recommended that the two ex-MPs be impeached after they were faulted by the commission for breaching the law and parliament regulations. Narisorn was faulted for voting for the other MPs using their electronic cards while Udomdej was found guilty of switching the constitutional amendment draft with an amended version without the approval of lawmakers.

The NLA held a session on Thursday during which Ms Supa Piyachitti, a member of the NACC delivered closing statements regarding the cases against the two former Pheu Thai MPs who were also allowed to deliver their closing defence statements.

But before the start of the session to hear the closing statements, assemblyman Gen Somjate Boonthanom urged NLA members to be present so they could hear the statements and be able to make informed decisions on how to vote tomorrow.

In the case against Narison, Ms Supa said the former Pheu Thai MP intended to cheat as proven by a video footage showing Narison inserting electronic cards three times to cast votes. She said that each MP was issued with only one card.

NLA impeachment decision over voting

BANGKOK: -- THE NATIONAL Legislative Assembly (NLA) is due to decide today whether two Pheu Thai Party politicians should be impeached for illegally voting on behalf of absent colleagues and illegally making changes to a constitutional amendment.

Former Pheu Thai MPs Narisorn Thongthiraj and Udomdej Rattanasatien will be banned from politics for life if they are impeached. It will require at least 150 of the 250 legislators to vote against them.

The NLA yesterday heard closing statements from the accused and the accuser, the National Anti-Corruption Com-mission (NACC).

The people break the law but the politicians only breach the law ,I thought it was the same but made to look less of a crime

What a lying PTP politician about voting with multiple cards.. kinda shows the level of that group. Like anyone would believe that someone would vote with 3 cards for himself on the same issue. Not to mention that they already checked that he did not even had 3 cards to vote with. (they were never issued). Great democratic values in the PTP camp, switching drafts illegal voting.  (and stone cold lying when caught.. they learned a lot from their illustrious leader)

IMO there should be when there is video evidence as in this case.

They are politicians.. (no matter what side) they don't go to jail. (rarely).

The fun thing there is video evidence.. they checked if he had more then one card to vote (no he did not) and he still says he did keeps on lying.

I am sure with enough digging dirt could be found on the opposition. This is just a matter of swabbing the decks clean before the next election. If the PTP party exists in any shape or form to compete in the next election this is just another way of saying they better be "team players" following the governments road map no deviations please. He who is in power calls the shots mostly against people that are opposing them. The white man did the same when he landed in America and said "Holy cow look at all them Indians" and then there were almost none like the buffalo.

I seem to remember way back he blames on the onset of Alzeimer's - or was that another PTP clown?

They have to keep the same lie going or they'd loose face. Even thought the evidence is overwhelming. Then, when found guilty he'll claim it's all "politically motivated". What's worse is idiot journalists like the BBC will probably report it that way too.

Imagine lying and cheating things through when you actually have a majority and don't even need to - arrogance and entitlement or what?

They should add extra punishment for lying.. i mean.. this is real blatant lying. Politicians should be better than that.

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) today voted to impeach two former Pheu Thai MPs, Mr Udomdej Rattanasathien and Mr Narisorn Thongthirat, for breaching the law and parliament regulations.

For Mr Udomdej, the NLA voted 206 against 15 to impeach him from a total of 224 votes. Three votes were void.

The impeachment followed recommendations from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that the two ex-MPs be impeached after they were faulted by the commission for breaching the law and parliament regulations.

I have to agree with you rob, lieing about it should have a further penilty, not just a fine and ban from politics but gaol time also.

I don't care what side lies, but politicians should set a good example.. if those in the top act like this it sets a real bad example. We seen our share of lying in Thai politics, remember the minister of white lies.

That being said I seen them get caught in my country too.. withholding reports and such... but usually when that happens they step down at least. It also does not happen that often.

I read the full article.. seems that they are still going to get charged further and have a 5 year (i thought life time) ban.
