Justice minister says public should know who are dragging the feet on case against Phra Dhammachayo

BANGKOK: -- The public should be able to judge which parties between the inquiry officers and public prosecutors are dragging their feet in the handling of the money laundering and receiving stolen objects case against Phra Dhammachayo and Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, former chairman of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives, said Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya on Monday.

He disclosed that he was told by Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, director-general of Department of Special Investigation, that his inquiry officers had already wrapped up the case and it could be proceeded to the court.

Noting that there are only two parties who could delay the case – the inquiry officers or the DSI and the public prosecutors, the justice minister admitted that he could not fingerpoint which of the two sides is dragging their feet on the case.

He went on saying that the decision of the public prosecutors in charge of the case to postpone their ruling whether to proceed with the case to the court until November 30 had nothing to do with the DSI as it is a matter of justice process.

The justice minister, however, said that he would not meddle in the case “because it is a justice process” and the matter rests with the inquiry officers and public prosecutors.

Meanwhile, Mr Paiboon Nititawan, former chair of the Buddhism Protection Reform Committee, said that the public was worried with the delay of the case after the prosecutors decided to postpone until November 30 to judge whether to proceed with the case to the court.

article 44 can't solve everything. The monk is a very big fish. It's no easy getting your hand in him. Go after the small ones. This one is too big for your fishing rod 5555555

If the case is ready for presentation in court he SHOULD know who or what is holding it up and it's about time he started ' meddling ' which is actually known under another name, it's called Doing His Job !

Time to change the law so that it always should be a named person in charge of each step of the process.

From police to the court case it settled.:mfr_closed1:

That would make it easier to find where corruption delay or stop some one from being brought in front of a court. :hit-the-fan:

NACC should the as standard look in to all cases that drag on to long if some one is trying to delay or stop a case

Dear Minister of Just Is, ask yourself who stands to gain from this ..., yup exactly ...both

This is a fascinating case. The cult-like sect has gained a rapid following by combining themes elements of Thai Therevada Buddhism with modern, new-age spiritual mumbo-jumbo that their followers can easily relate to (technology worship, veneration of money and material values, etc...). The real reason the conservative branch wants their leader prosecuted is that they don't know how to compete with them (and don't want to). Some parallels can be drawn with the US's large, charismatic pentacostal churches as well as with scientology.

It is pretty obvious to anyone who has followed the case closely that the temple is up to its ears in corruption, but what Thai institution isn't nowadays?

As justice minister it is exactly your job to identify, address and rectify issues that interfere with and abuse the "justice process", but if you rather don't "meddle", then only open your mouth to eat and continue not doing your job.

Justice minister says he doesnt know who is dragging their feet !!!

OK i will help him, both the DSI and Justice department are dragging their feet.

Neither body wants to be the 1 to have to do anything, they are waiting/hoping it will just go away quietly.

Trying to debunk the good monk will be a long and tedious effort. He can more likely present character witnesses till the cows come home. Holding his feet to the fire will require courage and perseverance which can be in short supply here if a prosecutor is trying to move up the professional ladder here. Few prosecutors want to handle unpopular cases here that involve jeopardizing their career. Poking this lion could prove harmful to health and career here.

MORE SLEAZE

I suppose that the Justice Minister is also unaware that there is a crooked lawyer in Samut Prakan, continuing to operate a busy law office, despite losing his licence 20+ years ago.  He is allowed to get away with this, and cheat even more people, by calling himself a "Consultant"!!!

No doubt the J.M. would also have us believe that "THERE ARE NO PROSTITUTES IN BANGKOK".......they are merely "Personal Service Consultants"!

At least they are more reliable than the lawyers!

'The public' should be given a free and fair general election so they can elect accountable officials to do the job - is that what he's saying?

I find it hard to believe that a free and fair election will hold these people accountable.

Don't hold your breath over the "free and fair election". Accountability, and responsibility are NOT going to happen anytime soon.
