Man Accused of Kidnapping Boy

Featured Replies

The Rattanakiri provincial serious crimes police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping his debtor’s nine-year-old son after the debtor refused pay him back, according to district police and a court spokesman. Police said the kidnapping took place in O’Chum district’s Samaki commune on October 31 and the accused was identified as Phan Pros, 38, a rubber plantation worker living in Bakeo district’s La Minh commune.

A Bakeo district police officer who declined to be named said the provincial serious crimes office, which was in charge of the case, arrested the man at his home on Saturday after taking the boy there. “We only cooperated with the provincial police to arrest him, but we did not question him,” he said.

“The provincial serious crimes police came and arrested him at his house in Bakeo district where he kept the boy and brought him [Mr. Pros] to the provincial police to prepare the documents to send him to court.” He said Mr. Pros was not sent to his office because relatives of the victim went directly to the provincial serious crimes office to file a complaint the day the boy went missing.
