Twenty-seven-year-old motorbike- taxi driver Nuch Samnang was sentenced by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 109 years in prison after being found guilty of 13 cases of armed robbery between 2012 and 2015. Presiding judge Chea Chandeth said Mr. Samnang had been convicted of 13 counts of “theft with aggravating circumstances” under articles 353 and 357 of the Criminal Code.

He said Mr. Samnang was arrested by military police in Phnom Penh in September last year, after which a pistol and five motorbikes were seized. After the verdict yesterday, Mr. Samnang admitted to having committed a number of armed robberies, but denied having been involved in the ones in which he was convicted.

“I do not remember how many robberies I committed. But I do not recognize some of the cases that the court has charged me with, because I did not commit them or was related to them,” he told Khmer Times outside the court. “I will appeal all my charges and the judgment to the Appeal Court,” he said.

He said to the judge "Sir, I am 29 years old, I can't do 109 years in jail" to which the judge replied, "well, try to do as much as you can". :coffee1:
