November 9, 20169 yr http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37906742 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the 500 ($7.60) and 1,000 rupee banknotes will be withdrawn from the financial system overnight. The surprise move is part of a crackdown on corruption and illegal cash holdings, he said in a nationwide address on television. This could be a problem for any Indian tourists who haven't exchanged their rupees before this news broke. Can't see the money changers being too keen to exchange rupees as they are likely to be facing problems should they have large stocks of these rupee notes. Edited November 9, 20169 yr by dabhand
