how many times to clean the pool per week?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just to move to a new house with fresh water pool (6x3m), the previous owner had a pool company 3 times a week - just wondering if 2 would be OK as well?

Thanks

Unless the pool is heavily used all week 3 times a week does seem like overkill.

It's not rocket science to do it yourself, I look after our pool and the water stays crystal clear (OK there was one "green yuk" incident, but that's all in the past).

We don't have a heavy swimmer load, mostly at the weekends when the grandkids visit. So I check / adjust the chemistry Friday evening after work, and vacuum on Saturday morning before it gets too hot.

We do have a salt-water chlorinator which once set up pretty well looks after itself (hence only once a week checking the chemistry), if you're manually adding chemicals then a mid week check is a good idea but no need to vacuum unless it needs it.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Ideally I would go for someone you could call on demand. Once a week/once a day and all points in between for me, depending mostly on wind levels which vary with the season (onset of cold season is the worst here in Lower Isaan), wind direction, bather load, crop plans of the neighbouring farmer, leaf fall - particularly from palm trees which seem to drop as much dirt as they drop palm fronds.

Luckily I am still happy to be my own pool boy - not a budgetary thing; I do my own ironing too - I find it therapeutic thinking time, almost meditational:D. I appreciate that there aren't many nutters like me around.

IME twice a week would be optimal but you might need to find someone or yourself to do the occasional emergency clean - probably no more than 5 times a year (unless you have regular picky bathers to deal with).

  • 2 weeks later...

We clean  our pool once a week ( sometimes a longer period of time)

Take the floating rubbish of the surface of the pool daily

Check chemical balance twice a week, no longer have a salt water chlorinator

Put aluminium sulphate about once a month and pump water out to waste

When the water gets cloudy but not dirty
