NRSA considers establishment of sports science institute

BANGKOK, 14 November 2016 (NNT) - The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is deliberating a proposal to set up the Thailand Institute of Sports Science (TISS) as the main agency for developing Thai athletes.

The NRSA meeting today considered a report to establish the TISS, which was submitted by the NRSA committee on the reform of sports, arts, culture, religion, ethics and morality.

NRSA committee chairman Gen. Yuthasak Sasiprapha explained that sports science plays an important role in strengthening and developing athletes. If used properly, sports science would be hugely beneficial to building athletes and the nation in accordance with government policy. The NRSA committee has proposed establishing the TISS as a national agency and the primary Thai organization for sports science.

Most NRSA members agreed with this report, but asked for clarification regarding its management framework to prevent redundancy, as there are currently many sports and science agencies.
