How Was Loy Krathong Celebrated?

Featured Replies

I walked for an hour up Jomtien beach last night and was surprised by how quiet it was, both in terms of numbers of visitors and - happily - without any fireworks, which were banned. Nor did I see more than a couple of traditional costumes being worn. Lanterns were also banned.

With money-searching kids wrecking the floats as soon as the launchers' backs were turned, and low tide returning most floats to shore very quickly, as rubbish, it felt like a rather sad affair, in every sense.

How was it elsewhere?

I hope it will be the same (quiet) as the real Songkran is there ....

You mean Loy Krathong, Songkran is celebrated in April.

Loy Krathong celebrations were pretty much as normal in Hua Hin. We went to the usual spot near the immigration office. The only main difference was most people were wearing black.

Songkran??I think to much Chang.

Funnily enough, Songkran was actually more like Loy Krathong is now than the current incarnation, which is all-out war.

The stealing of money thing by the kids is a real wake-up call, hey. Should be horsewhipped.

Whilst laughing about my early-morning Freudian slip, this could actually be a great topic....but I guess the heading should be changed!

Complete non event here in Phrachuap no lanterns seems they were banned just few kratongs more for kids than anything else ... very sad normally a good night

eh?? looks  like I  missed it.

No lanterns allowed. No loud music. Only floats were allowed. And it was quite windy by the beach.

Nice view of the super moon, once the clouds were gone.

Same here in nai harn, Phuket.

Sent from my ROBBY using Thaivisa Connect mobile app

We had nice loud music (jazz) and foodstands. The kratongs were made of bread so the fish had a real partytime in the lake.

Today i walked along the lake and noticed about 10 foodplates floating  which is in a moobaan.

It was great though, quiet and busy and great for pictures.
