PM to Stop Trucks

Featured Replies

Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered authorities, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and police to take legal action against any trucks that are illegally modified or carrying overloaded goods. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of National Road 76 in Rattanakiri province’s Lumphat district yesterday, Mr. Hun Sen announced that illegally modified trucks would not be allowed on roads across the Kingdom.

He added that the issue of illegally modified vehicles is not new, but has arisen again because of poor law enforcement. “Now, continue to detain and cut them [illegally modified trucks] and if they are not cut they will not be allowed to travel on the road,” he said.

“The standard of trucks from the factory is 12 meters, but you [owners] lengthen them to 15 meters.”

Last month, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport started checking trucks traveling along National Road 6 to ensure they conformed to legal size and modification requirements. Mobile inspection teams were deployed in Kampong Cham province to check trucks suspected of being overloaded via illegal modifications that have been blamed for causing $100 million of road damage a year.
