Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 160mph+

 

Ford Escort RS Turbo 160mph+

 

Cosworth had a 2.0 litre twin cam turbo charged engine so would of whooped your larger displacement garbage. 

 

Escort had a 1.6 litre turbo charged engine so that would of left your very large displacement engine looking very inadequate and embarrassed.  

 

Got caught speeding in the Cosworth and got banned for a while. A19 from Newcastle to Redcar. Those were the days then someone introduced me to Pattaya Thailand and it all changed from then. 

 

Oh and these 2 cars have the ability to go round corners at speed, not just in a straight line. When I mean corners I mean right hand corners as well as left hand corners.

I didn't have the 3.73 gears, wish I had. 3.56, maybe 3.43,  if memory serves. 26 MPG at 90 with the engine just loafing. 3.73 would have dropped my ET at least a couple of 10ths. as I barely got 4th in the 1/4, hated that. Once I got it all together I never got beat by a stock Camero or Firebird.  Damn that ' 61 was jewel. No corners though...lol. I got a '63 SS with the 425 hp and 4 spd. to rebuild/restore, the engine was running, but was not turning the HP it should. A divorce from the depths of hell stopped that. I had dreams of Super Chevy and Muscle Car Nationals. So much for the well laid plans of mice and men...lol.

1974 V12 Jag E - type convertible, stock most fun to drive when it worked. 1976 V12 XJS, stock and no where near 180 mph as earlier mentioned. 1985 500SEC AMG. Full AMG package custom done by AMG in Germany hammer engine, suspension the whole nine yards. 1985 Honda CRX-si, great little go cart. When driving between Coronado and Palm Springs, if I went through the hills, preferred the CRX-si if traveling by highway the AMG. Those were the fastest most fun to drive. 1985 500 SEL satellite radio, super bright headlights, custom interior was great for desert driving at night with sun roof wide open.

67150mph no word of a lie Fiat Uno  Turbo 1988-89-90 motorbikes were always way faster 170mph on a  gsx r1100

Did  I mention the Earths  speed thru space for the first one?

Had a XB Ford falcon, 351ci V8 with a 4 speed manual trans.

Just so much torque it was frightening.

l didn't do too much to the engine, just fitted extractors & bigger exhaust system.

l loved to round up the Chryslers & Holdens. This was in the early 70s.

Got too many speeding tickets so l sold her & went overseas.

Now back in Australia, l have just bought the latest(& the last)Holden VFII.

3.5litre V6 210kw, but its got all the power that l need.

With its IRS it hugs the road & sails around bends at 125km/h.

Prob be my last car

must have been you i  passed in my Fiat Uno Turbo "chipped" 0-60 (uk) mph 6.2 seconds. (Birmingham to Edinburgh 300  miles in 3.5  hours)..............bike still thrashed it though 0-100 UK mph in 6.1  seconds

I was fortunate enough to go to the '66 Winter Nationals in Pomona, CA. while stationed at Camp Pendleton. Damn what cars! First Cobra I had seen, OMG, the damn thing went up instead of squatting when it came off the line. Nickerson Pontiac was there from Dickinson, Texas they brought some big Pontiac guns and went home with a bunch of prizes. If memory serves, Pontiac ruled the S/S classes that year. Ah, Stone, Woods, Cook, John Garlits, etc. They may not run like today's but there was just something about the thunder and the power. Opelousas, LA had some great drags. I saw one of the very, very few "mystery 427" Chevy's run there. "Black Trash", first stocker I had ever seen lift the front wheels, shook like it was about to come apart from the solid cam as it came to line. Some of you know and are probably hearing it right now. In the pits, big sign, DO NOT TOUCH!. The aluminum was so thin you could dent with a finger. Glory days.

Both very impressive vehicles but where does the 160mph+ come from  as I cannot find any numbers close to those on google.

Never saw any of those do anything on the strip, you know, standing start stuff....

The setting was a drive in restaurant in a U-shape parking lot. ALL street machines. You back in to a space if there is one and watch the parade. Guy pulls through with a '65 Ford Falcon Sprint, jacked up gasser style, ladder bars, street slicks, and does a wheelie for about 1 second, then idles through. I have come up through the right time.

only a 1.4  litre as  well.........frightened many a bigger  car

chipping  not really correct it was increasing the turbo  boost really, in my uno turbos it  went from about .75  bar to 1.2bar 120hp to 155hp for cosworths it  would be a lot  more, I had them for about 3  years trashed them in a year usually head gasket went part exed  them in for a new one each year.....they were real  fun

gearbox and final drive ratio's not change from OEM ?

to get significantly above 100 mph surgery was needed

 

as I probably said above, the surgery kits available some 40+ years ago were extremely comprehensive,

and they were not costly
