Floating Bridge for Angkor Wat

Featured Replies

A temporary floating bridge will be built over the moat leading to Angkor Wat from late this month until May while the original is closed for repairs.  The Apsara Authority, the government body that manages the Angkor Archaeological Park, will cooperate with Sophia University in Japan to build the structure, allowing visitors access to the historic site, it was announced yesterday.

The second phase of repairs to “Spean Harl” – the original bridge – will begin after construction of the floating bridge is completed.  “The repairs require totally closing traffic on the bridge which local and foreign tourists always cross to visit Angkor Wat temple,” Apsara Authority director-general Sum Map said.

The closure would allow thorough repair of the bridge.  Mr. Map said the floating bridge would be built to the south of the original so that tourists could visit the temple safely and avoid risks during the repairs.
