Stayed 180+ Days on METV, will i get denied next time ?

Featured Replies

Hi , i stayed from  May to December on a METV Visa, now i plan to go back home for about 2 Months and then i would like to come back on a METV in February again.

I read that more and more people are being denied if they stay more than 180 days a year as a tourist.

Will i get denied when i arrive at the airport ?

What should i certainly have with me to be allowed to entry ? 20k ? Maybe my business liscence from my home country ? Proof of oversea income ?

Thanks !

No problem to get another METV.

There is not written rule that only 180 days are allowed.

A far as the reports of people being denied entry for it none have actually been confirmed that was the reason they were denied entry.

They are often told the 180-day rule (even though this rule was rescinded), then something else is written in Thai, which they later have translated, and usually says  they did not have the funds to support themselves - even if they did have the funds.

I would stay tuned to this board for information as it unfolds to determine what crossing points are "safe" for you to return with a Tourist Visa.  It is generally assumed that a visa from one's home-country is better tolerated - but no written rules in existence to help anyone know anything for sure.  At present, I would avoid Poipet/Aranyaprathet, Rayong, and Don Muang airport (just reported denial in the last day), but this could all change by the time you return.

I would definitely have 20K Baht, and show it at the first instance of questioning, as well as any further documentation of proof of your non-Thai income.   I always carry the same when entering.  I also use land-borders, as those would allow me to simply walk away and try somewhere else, if denied entry.  Also have a backup plan - somewhere else you would like to spend your time - maybe Cambodia, Vietnam, or The Philippines, who will all welcome your money and presence with open arms.
