Going to Vietnam, do I need a return ticket?

Hi,

 

Please I have to go to VN for work and I would like to ask if I need to show a return ticket when I check in?

 

I applied and obtained a 3 months evisa

I only bought the entry ticket because I am not sure how long I will stay there: will the airline, (vietjetair) let me board without a return ticket outside of Vietnam?

Would think you can sort at check-in if asked.

 

Remember a thing about a traveler arriving VN on a single ticket and it took just a bit of a while to she explained to immigration she was going onward out the country overland.

I guess if you have your papers for the future employer in VN l can't see it being a problem.

 

There must be someone somewhere to telephone if your worried about it.

I never had problems with onward/return tickets when I lived and worked there (before I had a temp residence card) but that was over 5 years ago...

I visit VN at least twice a year and on my most recent trip I was asked for a return ticket, the first time ever but probably because I was going in on the visa free entry

Buy a bus ticket to the nearest country, to be safe. Be very wary about advice you get from all the experts you have around you.

I have never had a problem with a visa.

 

But when given the visa on arrival introduced last year I was asked to show my return ticket.

And another expert tells you to get on a bus to be safe!! That's one piece of advice I'd be ignoring

I fly to Vietnam for work regularly and I've never been asked to show return ticket at the airline counter in Bkk or HCMC. I buy each leg a few days before i require it.

I arrived in Vietnam 2weeks ago.had a 3month Evisa and 1way ticket , no problem checking in,and they'd hardly issue the visa if an o/w ticket was required , it's only required for a visa exempt entry.

Yeah, that would be the airline counter in BKK or SGN.  There Is no HCMC.

Not if you have a visa.

Also depending on your nationality be aware there may be an entry fee to pay as a stamping fee on arrival.

Or maybe not, de[ending on your nationality and type of visa.

Actually there is a Ho Chi Minh City.

The airlines still refer to it with the code SGN for Saigon.

You will also discover that many of the locals still refer to it as Saigon.

As the Destination Expert for HCMC on Tripadvisor I have needed to answer this question quite frequently.

The problem will not be with immigration but with the budget airline because they are responsible for taking you back out of the country if you're rejected at immigration so they can become very  pedantic over  not having a forwarding  flight . 

This can be overcome in two ways.

Buy or more correctly rent a flight at the link provided by an earlier post or book a cheap bus ticket to Phnom Penh with no intention of actually taking the bus.

As the bus is about $18 now the rent a flight for only $10 is the better option.
