KOH SAMUI: -- Police in Koh Samui have announced the arrest of a man who had almost four kilos of magic mushrooms in his fridge.

The psychedelic 'shrooms - known as het khee wai (buffalo pooh mushrooms) in Thai - were headed for restaurants on Koh Phangan for the next full moon party, reports Daily News.

There the class two drugs would be made into alcoholic smoothies, milkshakes and omelettes for foreign tourists who want to trip the night away.

Arrested was Withaya (or Pang) Udom-aneklap, 43, at a house near the Nathon market. Samui police found 3.8 kilos of magic mushrooms wrapped in newspaper in his fridge.

Withaya told the cops he had bought the mushrooms to sell on to restaurants at Had Rin on Phangan.

He was charged with possession of class two drugs with intent to sell and detained.

Police said the mushrooms were worth about 1,200 to 1,500 baht a kilo though much more when made into food and drinks for the tourists.

Hilarity, they police know a lot about this particular middle man and the contents of his refrigerator, and whilst apparently informing the police as to the future of the mushrooms. And even the people who would eventually consume them.   And yet the price for the mushrooms wasn't known,  so they provided a range for the price they think they trade for and then suggested they sold for more when used in food and drinks.   <deleted>

It might be good for youngsters to try 'shrooms at least once.  Hopefully they'll have a good trip.  Psychosomatic drugs like psilocybin can expand consciousness - and more often than not, users enjoy the experience.   Note: Many people in Thailand use another drug called alcohol, and the drunk experience is usually enjoyable.  One difference between alcohol and 'shrooms is: Alcohol often results in harmful, sometimes deadly outcomes.   Mushrooms; almost never.   I challenge anyone to name a result of a psilocybin high - where someone was beaten, or a vehicle was crashed.   You can't.

Another advantage of such drugs: it widens perspectives.  Look at what Thailand is saddled with - people with narrow perspectives:   Thailand is now saddled with its 17th self-installed junta in 80 years, who's members keep postponing elections because they enjoy the power they took by force.  That's the sort of rulers (and kow-towing populace) a country gets when its people can't think outside the box.

I've never understood the need for a nanny state to dictate what you can and can't put into your own body, but then, there is the anarcho-libertarian in me oozing out.  Expand your mind and you're a danger to society; dumb yourself with Kaow Laow until you're in a stupor it's 'no problem.'  Strange world imho.

Agree to a point, but to be fair, driving while under the influence of psilocybin is probably just as dangerous as alcohol. I don't think thats a good argument. Especially trying to drive at night, in traffic, with your optics all screwed up.

Alcohol is a legal poison though & I pretty much agree.

they dont look like the magic mushrooms my friends and i spent our teenage years combing the local golf course for...

They are magic mushrooms, they appear to be of the Cubensis specie and the blue tint to them is a clear indication of the presence of psilocybin, the essence of any magic mushroom. You may have taken / seen other species such as Pan Cyan

Lol I guess that is one way to do it. There are no heavily poisonous look-a-likes to Cubensis, I think, but there are hundreds of thousands of different mushrooms so you should always exercise caution and know what you are picking. There are thing you can look for such as the gill structure, the hood and stem, the cap and also if there blue tint occurs when you squeeze or pinch the mushroom.

I know that law states that people here can be put away for 5 years, but what will this unfortunate chap probably be looking at? Making something such a hallucinogenic mushrooms highly illegal is ludicrous, I guess the powers that be don't want the masses thinking too much.. :whistling:

True. There used to be frequent deaths at Samui after people have mushroom drinks & omelettes then went off into the night on motorcycles and flying into coconut trees. Also read there are some pretty bad cases of young people being taken to the hospital at Koh Phangan after having similar accidents and falling off rocks after having mushrooms.

Yep, but same same alcohol of course. Both will jack up the mind and the optics.

What about crimes committed against the consumer Of said shrooms... is that at a higher rate than non consumers?

albeit probably at a lower rate than that against drunks.

just wondering.... certainly not judging, as I'm not in a position to do that ?

very interesting (he says as an old acid head) where do they get this stuff?...never even heard of it before in Thailand...

thb1500 a kilo? hmmm...yahs, yahs...could stay high for a month and give up the vodka...and give up impure thoughts about my 19 y.o. nieces...

a good psychedelic is very cleansing in that regard...the fundamentals of basic existence are in greater relief...

Magic mushrooms are illegal drugs in Thailand. It's illegal , very simple. The police did what they were supposed to .  Now the teenagers are only left with alcohol . But maybe they saved a few brain cells.

We are going to be on  the right side of history -and humanity- with this.

Google how Cambodia have the opportunity to leave Thailand scratching its head by exporting legal weed.

The site with the story is one of several thousand only now acessible by VPN. Therfore under, TVs regrettable self censorship.

Actually psilocybin has never been proven to kill off brain cells, rather it as been shown to encourage the growth of brain cells in mice

The alcohol will of course kill brain cells

And not to mention these promising findings

http://www.naturalnews.com/041393_psilocybin_psychological_disorders_magic_mushrooms.html

I remember seeing a documentary about a family man who suffered my extreme cluster headaches, to the point where even direct intake of oxygen from a tank did not relieve the pain. He and his family tried many things and he was contemplating putting a bullet into his head and end it all. They stumbled across magic mushrooms being used and now he takes them once every 6 weeks and never has had a single cluster headache since.

Again, we suffer as a species because of old stigma, corruption, disinformation and greed. Cannabis, Kratom and Mushrooms all have great medicinal qualities, and we do not even know of the full potential of these plants / fungi simply because they are illegal.

I've driven, at night and during the day, stoned on psychosomatic drugs.  Got pulled over once (on 'shrooms) for driving too slow - with a warning by a smiling cop.  Another time, I drove a hundred miles at night (on mescaline) in the suburbs of Washington D.C. and it felt like I was cruising in a fast spaceship - not a hint of trouble.

The US is socialist in dozens of ways.  I could make a list, but it would hog about two pages, and I've got better things to do today, than to spend two hours trying to educate the biased among us.

There must be many stoned cows, deer, goats and other ungulates, if they're eating magic mushrooms in fields.

Thanks, Mr. Establishment-Rules-Are-Right-So-Obey-Them-Or-Else.  Are you also in favor of strict enforcement of the type of laws which criminalize growers of hemp, or allow men to beat/rape their wives?  Incidentally, during and years after Trump was accused of raping his first wife, neither Trump nor his lawyer knew that spousal rape was illegal in NY.

This perhaps explains why so many 'Moonies' drown each month using the sea as a Khazi while off their heads...

I can check all those boxes & more, and I'm a firm believer people should be able to pick a mushroom out of a cow turd and eat it, if they are so inclined, or roll up a plant and smoke it, if they are so inclined, but I don't think I can advocate driving under the influence of it.

Even if 7 MPH feels like 100

Driving drunk is probably more dangerous but still. What feels safe while under the influence, probably isn't nearly as safe as clear headed and psychotropics really mess with thought process, probably more than the vision, and thats probably not a bad thing in limited doses, but in the context of piloting a car around other people, naw, probably not a good idea.
