French President Hollande won’t seek re-election in 2017

 

 

PARIS: -- François Hollande, France’s most unpopular president in polling history, said on Thursday that he would not be seeking a second term in 2017.

 

In an address on French television, the Socialist president defended his record since taking office in 2012 before announcing that he would not be seeking re-election.

 

He acknowledged that he would not be able to unite the deeply-divided left in France.

 

There has been tension between Hollande and his prime minister Manuel Valls, who is widely expected to throw his hat into the ring.

 

Ex-members of Hollande’s government including pro-business former economy minister Emmanuel Macron have already said they will be running.

 

It is the first time in decades that an incumbent French president has not sought re-election.

 

The surprise move throws the selection of a Socialist candidate wide open, with US-style primaries due to be held in January.

Another one bites the dust. I'm sure he'll live happily ever after rubbing shoulders with his EU nob buddies in Brussels... or Andriod (not that he looks like a robot or anything).  Let's hope Merkel also gets consigned to the dustbin of history. 

The right move. He wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. Here's hoping Le Pen won't win.

Unfortunately Merkel has a good chance of being reelected. There is no leading figure in German politics, in her own party or the opposition, who has much chance against her.

TOO late the damage has been done.

Lets hope MERKEL does the same.

But i doubt it.

He will be joining the Blair, Cameron, Harper plus many more in the politicians booty club. Its their just reward for outstanding community service. He says he could not bring his country together in the future. Hmm wonder who tore it apart in the past. One guy eager to replace you wants to cashier 5 million civil servants cancel the 35 hour work week and more damage to labor. More than likely he wants to give the savings in tax breaks to the rich. Its the same old shell game folks only the hands have gotten faster at hiding the pea.

She won't though. She has no thoughts of not standing or ever giving up power. Just like all those old fashioned communist leaders of East European countries in the past. Wants to cling on to power till she's in the coffin.

The world should be so lucky. I think the dustbin must be full by now with a queue. 

Approval rating was down to 4%. ( per a poll in Le Figaro newspaper in October) Even Hollande knew he had no chance to win.
