Ayutthaya to promote employment with city cleanup

AYUTTHAYA, 2 December 2016 (NNT) - In the latest bid to promote employment and environmental sustainability, Ayuthaya province is preparing to launch an urban cleanliness campaign involving local workforce recruitment.

Putdamrong Kunarak of Ayutthaya’s Office of Local Administration said the administrative sector had planned to carry out water weed removal at all canals and rivers across the province alongside the road cleanup. The proposal has been approved by the governor as it goes hand in hand with the national and provincial strategies.

Putdamrong explained that the canal and river cleanup project would be labor-intensive; it would, therefore, offer employment to job-seekers. Wages will be calculated based on the amount of individual work. A special committee will visit each district every 15 days to inspect the project’s operation.

The canal and river cleanup project will start on December 4th which coincides with Thai Environment Day. It’s expected that all waterways in Ayutthaya will be cleared of weeds by January 2017.
