BANGKOK: -- THE International Trade Promotion Department has drawn aggressive plans, including utilising executives of large Thai companies to better penetrate overseas markets to help drive shipments to achieve a 3-per-cent growth target in 2017.

Malee Cholumlerd, director-general of the department, said next year the department would emphasise many active plans in a bid to promote stronger export growth.

They will include drawing up strategic partnerships with trade-partner countries as it believes this strategy could effectively solve trade barriers and non-trade barriers as well as increase trade facilitation between Thailand and its trading partners.

Yes, getting the baht down will increase exports immediately.

including utilising executives of large Thai companies to better penetrate overseas markets "

Isn't that what they and their sales reps are supposed to do?

This is a sure sign the gravy train will be pulling out of the station anytime soon. Trade envoys fanning out around the globe to try arrest the downward slide in exports.

Planes and hotels booked, the big cheese and wives/gf's, their staffers, advisors, personal assistants and appended toadies have their bags packed and ready to go.

Of course everyone could stay at home while the government twiddled the baht downward  but that would be too easy and take the fun and pleasure out of it. Having the value of their hoarded away wealth diminished wouldn't appeal either.

If they can't sell rice what hope have they got of selling anything else.

only a 3% target?

thought they were going to achieve 5

what happened to the BS?

They got of cheap old rice at knockdown prices, that's about it really.

What is it that they have to sell?

Banana's, mango's, durian, rice, rubber, orchids, sugar, chickenmeat, pork, seafood. All high-tech produce, the farmers will get busy.

I thought human trafficking is illegal...

It's an import, not an export!

Who writes this garbage. What does this mean, for example?

If Thailand wasn't so crippled by corruption, incompetence and nepotism, and truly talented people were running the place, things might not be so desperate.

Import for local consumption, and export for consumption overseas...different grade of goods!

You just have to love when they use the following words aggressive plans, utilising  better penetrate overseas markets to help drive shipments

Generic words that you can find anywhere in a business book. Cut and paste.

And also not so expensive, but it's all to blame to the lack of police...traffic is sooo slow because they're all being selfish and love to hold up the line all the time.

If the target is not met it's the execs fault.

Nice side step.
