Royal Thai Army dispatches 12 military corps to help flood victims in lower South

BANGKOK, 6 December 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Army (RTA) has dispatched 12 military corps to provide assistance to flood victims in 12 southern provinces.

RTA spokesman Winthai Suwaree disclosed that RTA Commander in Chief Chalermchai Sitthisart has instructed the Army Disaster Relief Center, Region 4, to dispatch military units along with the equipment necessary to help flood victims in 12 southern provinces. Assistance operations will be enacted with close cooperation from local government agencies.

The Army Disaster Relief Center, Region 4, has dispatched 12 military corps and 50 trucks to help the flood victims by evacuating them and their properties to safe zones reinforced with sandbags. Local government agencies have also distributed 2,030 survival bags to the flood victims.

The military corps also built a temporary bridge to replace the collapsed bridge in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Sichon district.

Local military personnel are closely monitoring the situations and stand ready to provide immediate assistance if necessary.

Creating 12 corps from an army area (Region 4) containing 3 divisions is quite an achievment.

With that many corps (in just one of the four army areas) it's not surprising the RTA needs so many officers at upper command level.

I guess this would be funny if I understod it.

Have no idea how many soldiers Thailand has in one corps (no other country either).

But it is taken from 35000 men after what I can find (se below)

As far as I'm concerned helping with flooding's is a good use of any army.

Fourth Army – headquartered in Nakhon Si Thammarat, responsible for southern Thailand, engaged in the South Thailand insurgency. US State Department cables leaked by WikiLeaks in 2006 said: "Military forces totaling approximately 35,000 troops fall under the command of the 4th Army.

Good to see the RTA doing something to help the people. More than can be said for the RTP.
