Flood situations in the South remain worrisome

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 6 December 2016 (NNT) - Southern authorities have been continuously providing assistance to flood-affected residents as the situation still remains worrisome.

In Nakhon Si Thammarat, heavy rains and a surface runoff from Kao Luang Mountain Range have swept 23 districts. Provincial Governor Chamroen Thippayapongthada visited inundated areas in Sichon district to assess the damage. Strong currents in the river have significantly damaged the structural support of a bridge in See Kheed sub-district. The bridge is now at risk of collapsing.

The provincial governor was also told that the integrity of another bridge, which is located in Khao Noi sub-district, has also been compromised. Large vehicles are currently forbidden from traveling over the bridge until it is fully restored.

Relief bags have been given to 50 families in this part of the province as the flood currents remain too strong for vehicles. A bridge is expected to be built by the Department of Rural Roads to allow local residents to get around under a long-term plan. Local authorities have also been instructed to monitor possible mudslides in their respective areas.

Vocational colleges in Nakhon Si Thammrat are preparing meals and other necessities for flood victims. In Surat Thani, six districts have reportedly been inundated. Soldiers from Mobile Development Unit of the Royal Thai Army have visited them on flat-bottomed boats and given them drinking water.

In Songkhla province, residents of Ranot, Sating Phra and Krasae Sin districts have evacuated to higher grounds as heavy rain and higher sea levels prompted several rivers to flood the embankments. Dried food, medicines, and mobile toilets will be provided to those affected by the deluge.

Latest from my Tgf mom in Nakhon is the water is almost up to the ceiling on her first floor. The army or relief are bringing water and food in boats. Her mom was supposed to go to the school but said it is to noisy and crowded.

Told her to fly here till it is over but can't find out if airlines are running. Sure hope this ends soon.

It is indeed good to C that the PTP flood mitigation program is working well , probably about as well as Prayut's drought plan..................:cheesy:

It's hardly a laughing matter.
