BANGKOK, 7 December 2016 (NNT) - Police visited Sam Peng Market to make sure that no vendors were selling fake commemorative banknotes and coins of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Sam Peng Market is a famous retail market among Thai and foreign shoppers. Police officers have been searching for fake commemorative coins and banknotes after a report that a large amount of these bootleg items had been produced and made for sales to avid collectors.

The police, however, found no illegal items during their latest inspection. Commemorative products are by far the most popular items at Sam Peng Market. They include the black Thai number nine pins, mourning ribbons, earrings, and necklaces which retail for prices ranging from 20 to 100 baht.

Other commemorative items consist of t-shirts, hats, piggy banks and water bottles, all of which have a Thai phrase which can be translated into English as ‘I was born in the reign of King Rama IX.’
