PATTAYA:-- The Pattaya Harbor Master has said that the proposed ferry from the resort to Hua Hin has the potential to be great for the future of tourism.

Ekarat Khantharo said that much work needs to be done to ensure the service is safe and legal but indicated that he did not believe the project was a "dead duck" as has been suggested in the media.

But he made no comment to sanook.com about the original plans to start the service on January 1st.

The plans looked dead and buried after the pier at Bali Hai was deemed unsafe for large numbers of travelers.

Ekarat said that the service must be properly registered and run as a legitimate passenger service. The pricing structure must be above board and fair, the pier in Pattaya must conform to standards and the channels used by the ships must be properly investigated.

He said that tenders to run the service were still being made and a final selection process was yet to be carried out.

But he said that the service could be a boon for tourism between the two resorts as well as another stop off point in Samut Prakarn.

On again, off again, who knows?.........yes, all running to plan.

It's all about who's being paid, officially and unofficially.

If this venture will be using a publicly-funded jetty (Bali Hai) won't there also be payments to be made for that, and for its upkeep? Or does some recently-set-up nothing company who's running this venture just roll up, mob-and-military-handed on Day 1 and believe it can start using the pier for free? (Which is what it sounded like recently)

Inspiring statement that puts all TV posters firmly in their place  (myself included ) .

He said that tenders to run the service were still being made and a final selection process was yet to be carried out.

Then he shoots himself in the head after many statements that only one company bid to run the service. The famous Thai royalcruise company that doesn't have a website . ..or a ferry...or a jetty maybe. But it will be great.

"The pricing structure must be above board and fair,"

The prices seemed bit high for the passenger service.  It was around B2000 per passenger if memory serves.  That is way too high compared to ferries in China, Malaysia and Singapore

Is the pier/jetty at pattaya safe or not!!!

To answer that will require a lot of mulling.

Oh no it isn't!

What a pantomime.

Not really. Difficult to get on and off the boats if one has any form of handicap etc

Did the operators even have the good ship lolly pop ?

Or was it going to be a phantom ferry boat

must be an investor... it will never happen imop.

"The pricing structure must be above board and fair,"

So a dual pricing structure will be used with nonThais citizens paying double+ fares?

Tompelli mentioned " To answer that will require a lot of mulling. " & I agree, however mulling can be rather ineffective unless combined with quite a lot of pointing.

And can you get ferries to Hua Hin from these locations?

The pier  is  perfectly  safe  until  it falls into  the  sea!

Sort  of  like  a  few  others  I have  used  in Thailand,

Honduras, Guatamala, and Belize

  Geezer

Everyone just figuring out how they can benefit, that's all.

wow. this planning and safety stuff is hard.

I'm sure if they just push back the start date by one month they can be open for business.

think about that when you are half way across the gulf on one of those ferries.

As usual. Even the position as Pattaya Harbour Master must have been made up, bought and paid for since to all intents and purposes, Pattaya has nothing remotely close to what is commonly classified as a harbour. It's simply a bay with a beach.

Forget it, wont happen.

Any bets what will happens first. The Pattaya ferry service running or the monk finally arrested?

I'm coming down from cnx to pattaya , mid january, like to take the ferry to hua-hin, even for a pleasurable lunch, then return same day , or could stay HH, then bus to airport ?

If you mean plan A for January 2017, I would recommend working on a plan B. Just in case all of the above is pie in the sky.
