PHICHIT, 12 December 2016 (NNT) – A farm in Phichit province has become a learning center for rice growers looking to circumvent middlemen.

Organic rice farm Baan Chad Jane Farm was recently featured in an episode of “Returning Happiness to the People” during which Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha pointed it out as the origin of the “Rice Lunchbox” program, which seeks to promote organic and eco-friendly rice farming.

The farm is now attracting both buyers, with over 30 customers arriving per day to pick up rice, and farmers seeking to learn about its approaches to rice growing. The farm’s workers are also trying to show visiting children the strenuousness of rice farming to instill in them an appreciation for rice and agriculture. It is also providing knowledge in related areas such as online marketing and circumvention of middlemen.

Baan Chad Jane farm is operated by the Pratanarak family on a 50 Rai plot. The family in 2010 began researching organic, non-chemical dependent farming as a way to reduce their overhead costs but found that their crops were not only more environmentally friendly but were also higher in value on the market.
