State banks seek permission to extend payment period for low income earners

BANGKOK:-- Three government banks have asked the Ministry of Finance for an extension of the period for payment of monetary aid for the poor with reason that they are finding that they were having difficulty meeting the 30 day deadline falling on December 30.

President and CEO of the Government Savings Bank Chatchai Phayu-Nhawichai said that Government Savings Bank, Krungthai Bank and Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives have sent in a request to the Ministry of Finance to have the cabinet approve an extension on the payment period for the aid program for the poor.

The deadline for all payments to be completed was earlier set at December 30 but they are finding that all payments cannot be completed within the specified time, he said.

All the banks said that a substantial number of poor people have yet to contact either three banks and as such monetary aid payments cannot be successfully made.

No surprise here. Can one get blood out of a stone?

Its funny that stories on poverty do not garner much attention

here. Its the season to be generous to your fellow man. Shop within your means (I know some that don't) Try and shower some love and attention on somebody that is down and out. Make a small donation to a charity of your choice. Its a seasonal holiday after all not a shovel the dough into merchants coffers. We have become to slanted in this direction over the years.

There was apparently some difficulty with bank transactions a few days ago, I hope there is no problem allocating and depositing funds for the poor as expected, also appears not much action on the BAAC rice purchase and storage programme, I hope this is just a knock on effect of the additional work caused by the payments to the less fortunate. It maybe with holiday time and the massive transfer of funds regular transfers will be slightly delayed. I sure everything is under control it is a huge task but welcomed by many.
