Thailand is top destination for online searches this year

France's famous travel website Routard.com has put Thailand as the top destination of all searches made online this year.

Government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the French popular website on travel has ranked Thailand at the top of all long-haul destination searches made online.

The NNT reported that the website compiled user searches during January to November 2016 and concluded that Thailand was the top pick, while the United States came in the second place, followed by Cuba, Bali, Vietnam and Canada.

The website described that users were highly confident in Thailand’s capability as a long-haul travel destination, and added that Thailand has held the top tier position for many consecutive years.

What did they search?

By people using that one specific site (Routard?... retard?) or general searches in Google. If the former; well, that is one PR5 website (and a French one at that, which I've never heard of); if the latter, travel-related searches could be anything from Thai girls in destination to Thai ladyboys in destination and best beaches in Thailand, etc etc. All very arbitrary and nothing to get wet about.

My guess:  They read stuff in the news and couldn't believe it was true.

Price+short time+pattaya?

?

Great headline.

I suppose it's better than "Thailand, top destination for online searches for long haul travel through one specific French website."

It's he'd the number one position for many years, only this year it makes news. Another desperate attempt to talk up the ailing Thai tourism industry.

Searches are not tourists. Anyone ever hear of this French search engine?

correct Headline:

One French travel website reports that "Thailand" was the term searched most by its users.

Oh dear the bashers are going to be extremely upset... Again

Suck it up boys thailand will never lose its top spot as the world's leading tropical destination. Even with a military government! Although to be fair 90%of tourists wouldn't have a clue!!

Thailand is rapidly losing the top spot but TAT and now clearly McFish simply do not want to admit that refusal to update infrastructure with all the money made from tourism over the last 30 or so years is now part of the cause. The high incidence of road deaths, floods, droughts, accidents, murders, suicides, scams and false smiles, together with poor sea water quality in many tourist areas are not only being noticed but are being aired on social media to the detriment of tourist numbers, despite what TAT says.

And where exactly are the tourists all going?

The 1 kilometre stretch of restaurants in Phnom pen, or the violent phillipines or maybe.. God forbid.. China? It's not even worth mentioning Laos and Myanmar.. Vietnam will always have a good share but not even remotely close to what Thailand has to offer!!!

Does Vietnam has its own Pattaya/monger's city? Or its own drug-islands? I've never been there so I have no idea.

Thailand is ahead as it's much longer in biz with tourists but that doesn't mean tourist don't live and learn and explore other areas.
When i first visited Burma in 97 there were hardly no independent travellers. Now the place is loaded! We will see what thailand will get/do/evolve into.

On most Thailand related blogs and websites the number one search is: price for hookers in Bangkok/Pattaya.

California gets 8x as many visitors as Thailand.  And it's just one of 50.

Florida gets 3x as many tourists as Thailand.  It's almost tropical.

New York City by itself gets almost twice as many.

Jeez,  Even France gets almost 3x as many foreign visitors as Thailand.  Hits on a website don't count for much when tourist services people have to feed their families.
