Corruption makes thailand go around.
The black money economy dwarfs the transparent economy ten fold.
It's impossible at this point. Maybe take the 1000 baht note out of circulation and replace it like others have done to curb the problem.

Pull a Modi. How do you introduce a cashless society when 40% of the people have no bank account. The poor always get slammed. The rich in India no doubt have their own bank queue.

When people see nothing wrong with the Chief of Bangkok Police receiving 50k a month from a beverage company (and that's the one we know about) as a 'consultant' how can anyone take this seriously.

Thailand without corruption would grind to a halt.

Tackling craft would need to start at the top.

And thats where the problem lies !

The same aggressive approach you are taking against the monk?

Yep, and Kho Tao mafia family!

Exactly. The aim is to consolidate all corruption under a single pyramid.

Yep, and no guesses as to who will be at the top, why the head Honcho himself!

Open letter:

Dear PM,

Following your call for an aggressive approach to tackle graft, ARREST THE MONK!

" The PM also ordered all agencies to publish their assessments on budget transparency and licensing facilitation online within 30 days to boost their credibility in the eyes of foreigners."

Of course this won't apply to the military.  The Thai military isn't an agency, it's the government and above all laws.  http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/30302433

Geez can't wait for TAT to publish their report, they don't have much credibility when it comes to figures and can't see them publishing a new set is going to help

Credibility in the eyes of foreigners?
They just took a mine of Australian company. No Australian will be trusting the Thai government anytime soon regarding foreign investment.
Chinese aren't putting their money here after some crackdown on Chinese tour groups.

Nobody trusts any element of government in Thailand. Not even Thais so you can forget foreigners.

All talk, minimal action unless it benefits a small selection of chosen people. See his opinion on the police chief's involvement with the alcohol company.

Lip service...Lip service .......comes to mind.

Meantime, any cracking down on corruption will be cracked down upon the competition.....lol....and goes without saying on their part.

Cheers

The clock is ticking!

'Western' countries were of course every bit as corrupt as here only 150 years ago and are still far from perfect. What made the difference however was the growth of the middle classes: they need predictability & efficiency for their trade & commerce. The wealth they produced over time allowed governments to increase their tax revenues & pay liveable salaries to government employees ... So the secret for Thailand would seem to be economic measures that help the middle classes to grow (with reduced bureaucracy, effective planning & implementation, enforcement of laws ... ), all producing cultural change over time.
