Man Dies at Rubber Factory after his arm caught in machine

Featured Replies

A worker at a rubber processing factory in Rattanakiri province died after getting his arm caught in a latex cutting machine on Wednesday afternoon, according to police and a human rights worker. Ngoy Dorn, the deputy police chief of O’Yadav district, said the man was working for the O’Yadav Rubber Processing Factory when he had his left arm pulled into the machine.

“It happened at 2pm. He was working for a rubber factory and accidentally had his left arm squeezed,” he said, declining to comment about how much the factory paid in compensation to the victim’s family. Mr. Dorn was quoted by local media as saying the factory had paid $500 for the victim’s funeral.

Chhay Thi, a provincial coordinator for rights group Adhoc, said in a report that the 21-year-old victim, Voun Var, had lifted latex to put on the pulley belt of the cutting machine and accidentally had his left arm pulled into the machine, squeezing him to death. Mr. Thi added that the body was already sent to the victim’s family in Tbong Khmum province.
